Position Summary
The Division of Research and Economic Development – Unit of Grants and Contracts Management is accepting applications for its Grant Accountant position. The Grant Accountant will report directly to the Grants and Contracts Unit within the Division ofResearch and Economic Development and will be responsible for supporting all objectives andguidelines outlined for the fiscal management of post-award sponsored research projects fromexecution of project to award closeout. This is done by providing support to the area director,project principal investigators, funding agency, subcontracts and University administrators.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Education
Four (4) year college degree required in Accounting, Business or Finance.

Minimum Required Experience
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and other governmental regulations.
  • Prior experience using integrated higher education financial systems.
  • Proven extensive knowledge of post award grants management experience, preferably in Higher Education.

  • Understand and explains applicable federal and state legislation, rules, regulations, and procedures to researchers, management, vendors, contracting agencies, and others.
  • Must be competent in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Strong attention to details with robust analytical skills.

  • Exercises the initiative to resolve problems.
  • Capable of successfully managing multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with strict deadline.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with University faculty and staff, funding agencies and auditors.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Review and process various transactions as needed.
  • Provide professional training to institutional personnel regarding regulatory compliance.
  • Provide proper grant closeout and account reconciliation.
  • Maintain current billing, invoicing, or drawdown of funds from various external funding agencies.
  • Complete budget setup process upon receipt of awards to the institution.
  • Monitor costs for reasonableness, allowability, and allocability
  • Assist with data collection and compilation for both internal and external audit requests.
  • Ensure adherence to and enforcement of federal, state, and university policies and procedures related to grants.
  • Create and analyze monthly budgeting and reporting of grants awards to ensure compliance.
  • Assignment of appropriate expenditure categories that best identify the expense to ensure successful implementation.
  • Provide ongoing technical & financial support to Principal Investigators (Pis), administrators, and other internal/external entities.
  • Complete all financial reporting as required by various funding agencies.
