Position Summary
The purpose of the Accountant 1 position is to provide accounting support to the Law School Business office. The primary functions of the accountant will be to allocate charges, audit, review, reconcile, analyze entries posted to accounts to ensure proper classification of expenditures and revenue to proper funds, and process journal voucher adjustments to correct entries as directed; ensure transactions conform with accounting system controls as mandated by institutional policies, state statutes, and audit stipulations; process deposits for state and foundation funds, prepare foundation transfers to state and monitor gift funds, manage the process of accounts receivable, personal services contracts and custom contracts; act as primary custodian for procurement card purchases including distributing charges to proper allocations, fulfill the role of department grant administrator, monitor a variety of funds, and download data monthly and import to the database for reporting.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with 30 quarter (20 semester) hours of college-level Accounting; OR
- 30 quarter (20 semester) hours of Accounting courses and three years of Accounting experience*
- Bachelor's degree with CPA or PA certificate; OR
- Closing accounts at the end of an accounting period;
- Accounting experience must include at least 3 of the following:
- Processing data using a computer.
- Preparing transactions to be recorded in records of original entry;
- Summarizing data from a ledger to a trial balance;
- Applying PC spreadsheet, database, and word processing software;
- Preparing journal entries, posting from journals to general ledger, or preparing original general ledger entries;
Professional Competencies
- Strong working knowledge of accounting principles and methods.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty from culturally diverse backgrounds and with multiple intersectional identities; and advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the university community.
- Ability to analyze, report, and interpret complex financial information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant interactive database system (such as Banner) experience.
- Working knowledge of business intelligence (such as Cognos) for reporting.
- Advanced experience in Excel and Access.
