Smith Engineering is a leading engineering firm dedicated to helping our customers reduce energy at their facilities. Our project’s focus is on complex assets based around central plants and typically lasts the entire journey from an Energy Audit through Design/Build or Design/Bid so that we can bring the potential energy savings to fruition.

Projects are typically designed as optimization projects that include the implementation of instrumentation, replacement of chillers, pumps, piping, cooling towers, and implementation of a new building control system.

Our Energy Team is the largest team within Smith Engineering has grown 400% over the course of the last 2 years. The team is responsible for programs that include Energy Audits, Rebate Management, Modeling, Workforce Training, Sequence Development and Energy Conservation Development.

The role:

Project Management for Smith Engineering is about communications, coordination, and being the face of engagement with our customers. We are looking to leverage your engineering background to provide our customers with confidence in our execution. The role is about active engagement on 3 to 4 projects at a time and less about managing GANTT charts on long-term construction projects.

You:

• Have two to three years around energy efficiency projects
• Are located within 100 miles of New York City 
• Have two to five years of project management experience
• Have two to five years of construction management experience

What you’ll do:

• Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress and quality.
• Develop and effectively manage project schedules of multiple simultaneous projects to assure timely delivery.
• Follow best practices in contractor selection and contract administration.
• Oversee projects from conception, through execution to meet objectives of scope, schedule, cost, and energy savings
• Review, formalize, and approve documentation for the successful tracking of projects including submittals, schedules, schedule of values, billings, requests for information, requests for change orders, change orders, project start-up, and close out.
• Manage governmental programs and reporting requirements
• Coordinate communications between Design Engineering, Energy Engineering, Building Controls, and Customer regarding projects as required.
• Manage subcontractor scope and performance contractual requirements.
• Manage and hold team members accountable to scope and schedule
• Track Project Schedule to ensure we are meeting schedule
• Perform final walk-through of projects, and track punch listing

What you’ll need to be successful:

• Three to six years of project experience with some relevant experience with central plant or building engineering projects including chilled water systems, steam systems, or co-generation, including management of multiple projects from conception to closeout
• Excellent project planning, organizational, verbal, and written skills
• Able to execute engineering contracts
• Ability to manage changes quickly and effectively with internal team and external stakeholders
• Demonstrate strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Experience with construction administration and project management
• Skills with relevant software, including but not limited to AutoCAD, Procore, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Office Suite
• Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
• EIT (Preferred)
• Proven experience with managing multiple engineering projects simultaneously
• Experience managing engineers

Salary:

$95,000 - $135,000 per year. The salary range listed is for this job posting.

This is based out of the New York City metropolitan area region. The applicant can work in the office and can work remotely. The applicant is expected to work onsite at customer locations for specific responsibilities, and those locations may require travel.
