Job Summary/Essential Job Functions
The Employee Relations and Wellness Counselor in Human Resources provides professional support to the Employee Relations Team. This position provides specialized consultation on wellness, coordinating wellness programming for employees, and providing wellness solutions to strengthen our culture. This position supports employee relations, performance management, and employee discipline issues; provides interpretation of related policies, procedures and practices to University clients; conducts research on various projects and pulls reports as necessary; serves as a direct point of contact for employee complaints, concerns and grievances, working closely with the Employee Relations Manager to resolve issues; conducts internal audits and ensures compliance with various policies, laws and regulations.
Duties And Responsibilities
  • Conducts research and provides advice and assistance on employment related regulations at both the State and Federal level. Brings compliance related concerns to the attention of the Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) or Employee Relations Team Leader.
  • Drafts disciplinary letters and performance improvement plans for managers/supervisors; provides advice regarding performance management, disciplinary procedures, personnel policies, and labor agreements.
  • Conducts supervisor and employee training in discipline, performance management, and other areas of employee relations, including New Hire Orientation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Plans, develops, implements, and coordinates employee wellness sessions and programs.
  • Advises both employees and management regarding employee relations policies, work rules, and documentation; researches, identifies, and analyzes specific employee relations concerns and makes appropriate recommendations to client management.
  • Coordinates university procedures relating to employee relations, in accordance to UT policy, state and federal law. Serves as an additional point of contact with legal and coordinates problem resolution under direction.
  • Provides mediation and serves on negotiations teams for legal related matters, as needed.
  • Designs, implements, coordinates, and supports a Mind, Body, and Wellness program addressing stress management and other health related challenges in coordination with the UTHSC Fitness Center, University Health, Services, and OIED.
  • Reviews employee satisfaction survey results and makes recommendations for improvement teams.
  • Documents issues in HR Acuity; pulls or creates reports and conducts internal audits as they pertain to Employee Relations data and processes.
  • Conducts workplace investigations into complaints and allegations of non-compliance violating policy and procedure.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of human resources experience preferably in Employee Relations or work experience to be applicable to the duties listed in the job description.
