Job Description

SoundCloud is looking for a New York or Los Angeles based Strategy & Operations Director! You will be part of the Roster team which is spread between our offices in London, New York and Los Angeles. The role will focus greatly on our macro and day to day Roster business strategy and operations , within artist business lines and across Soundcloud. You will also work closely with other stakeholders across our multiple lines of business and the global teams, with your skills contributing to Roster related processes and projects within the SoundCloud Group. With the majority of the Roster team based in Los Angeles, you will become a key figure in the Roster function across the artist and creative partnership and distribution businesses. These functions are more US-UK teams. Experienced colleagues are willing to share their knowledge, helping you to thrive, master your tasks, grow your skill set and widen your horizon.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Operating /Strategic partner:
  • Partner with Roster Leadership and provide counsel to advance key initiatives. Develop and build relationships with internal stakeholders for increased efficiency and responsiveness of existing operations and help define new operational strategies by working with GM and Roster leadership on special projects.
  • Enable Roster leadership team to focus on the largest strategic initiatives by assuming day to day responsibilities for the Roster's operational effectiveness of the team.
  • Support the GM, managing the flow of information, resolving issues and providing analysis and advice on Key issues. Ensure Roster leadership timely involvement in key decisions or projects.
  • Serve as the GM representative and spokesperson, when not available, in conversations with senior leadership as well as partners.
  • Streaming strategic initiatives
  • Overseeing Roster operations and communicating objectives between internal stakeholders.


Operational Excellence:


  • Procedural Notes/Overview
  • A&R Research and Development
  • Royalty Solutions integration
  • Vendor Contracts / Payments
  • You will be instrumental in maintaining operational excellence through process to improve team performance.
  • Musiio x Roster tool development and integration
  • Overseeing the following


Drive Strategic Initiatives:


  • OKR Management: Track and communicate OKR's, including strategic team level priorities, goals and metrics.
  • Collaborate in Roster strategy and planning processes (OKR planning, headcount planning, budget, etc) and represent the GM in meetings when needed.
  • Strategic Planning: Plan strategy and planning cycles, connecting different points of view to help GM and Roster leadership plan with the best possible business context . This includes; timeline development, supporting teams to complete deliverables, and working collaboratively to prepare executive presentations.
  • Serve as a subject expert, handling inquiries and developing action plans to address them, and assisting with the preparation and dissemination of communications.
  • Support GM and Roster leadership team in developing the operational plan , including the overall strategic roadmap and business performance objectives (OKR's)
  • Strategic thought partner to GM and Roster Leadership- bringing together needs , notes and action items, lead operational following up of key initiatives. Frame problems and propose structures/models that help people better understand the problem and trade-offs.


Experience and Background:


  • Experience working with and influencing senior level executives
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with persons on all levels
  • Experience in planning and leading strategic initiatives
  • You have 5+ years of experience in music, tech, or entertainment. You've succeeded in high-performance cultures (whether tech,operations, strategy, music and entertainment related experiences) and you've lead cross-functional teams to achieve goals
  • Strong organizational skills: ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously that are deadline sensitive
  • Ability to organize and direct multiple groups and understand the value of working as a team
  • Demonstrated bringing strategies to life through written and verbal presentations
  • Strong presentation skills- both creative presentations (powerpoint, gsuite) as well as giving presentations to stakeholders at all levels.
  • You crave responsibility and want to help shape the vision and direction of the business unit
  • Experience in data analysis and budget management
  • Music / Tech industry experience a plus


The salary range for this role is $120,000 to $150,000 annually. The final salary offered will be determined based on relative experience, skills, internal equity, and location. We also offer a generous total rewards program - read more about additional benefits and perks below!
