At Hord Elevator, the grain procurement and feed production entity of Hord Farms, we take pride in producing quality grain and feed for our growing livestock operations. Our Director of Operations for Hord Elevator is an active visionary, establishing clear expectations and goals for our grain elevator operations team, and we are currently seeking someone to fill this important role. The ideal candidate has an active and extensive background in grain elevator operations, demonstrates organizational, leadership, problem solving, and communication skills, and brings an adaptable, self-directed, organized, ambitious and outgoing personality to the role. The ability to multitask, handle challenging interactions with tact and composure, and lead by example are key skills for the position.

Who We Are:

Hord Farms is a 5th generation family-owned agribusiness located in North-Central Ohio. We market over 800,000 pigs annually and farm over 8,000 acres. Hord Elevator LLC is the grain procurement and feed production entity at Hord Farms with two locations and a combined storage capacity of around 2.7MM bushels. Bucyrus, OH is the primary location where most of the grain is stored and where the feed milling takes place. Our second location is a grain-only facility in Edison, OH.

A Day in the Life:

• Engage in continuous education on all aspects of grain handling and storage, including new technology and advancements, and share insights on best practices and upcoming industry initiatives with leadership and direct reports
• Establish and communicate clear expectations on operational plans and goals for direct reports and their teams
• Build strong relationships with all farm staff, the senior leadership team, other departments, external consultants, suppliers, and the local community as required
• Spend a large percentage of time with the team to lead, mentor, and coach direct reports, ensuring alignment of team and department objectives to overall organizational objectives and standards
• Act as a key advisor to the Director of Risk Management and Nutritional Services and an engaged member of the senior leadership team
• Full time position, 45-50 hours/week M-F, with additional hours and weekends as needed, especially during spring planting and summer and fall harvest
• Scale trucks, unload ingredients, climb bins to visually check levels, lead and assist with maintenance/repairs/cleaning, and operate tractors and other equipment to support the team as needed

What You Need:

• Strong organizational and leadership skills
• An extensive background in grain elevator operations
• Adeptness at problem-solving, creative thinking, and basic math/accounting
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of all aspects of grain elevator operations and industry standard operating procedures.
• Ability to organize and prioritize projects, working well under pressure
• Clean driving record, no contact with pigs outside the Hord herd, and willingness to relocate to North-Central Ohio, if not already living in the region
