Job Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Director of Operations will be responsible for driving People, Products and Performance across one of the division’s operating sites. This individual will be instrumental in driving safety, operational excellence, flawless execution, and continuous improvement within the BW culture, across the site.
The Director Operations will oversee all aspects of the operational site including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Fabrication/Machining, Assembly, and Project Management to ensure the efficient and safe manufacture of all assigned Products/Projects in the facility. This person will build camaraderie and consistency amongst the operations function within the site and assist with recruiting, training, and coaching employees, on operations and process improvement principles, and facilitating change management across the site, including the deployment and sustainment of our BW Way operating model.
Job Responsibilities
  • Ensure with CPD Leadership compliance with company standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, OSHA, and safety
  • Purposeful people planning – implement local/site organizational structures required to meet the needs of the business, drive best practice across sites, minimize duplication and enhance efficiency. Ensure the right positions and people are developed to ensure the current and future needs of the site are satisfied. Develop “Lean Leaders” who drive for performance excellence in the Barry-Wehmiller culture.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop all those in span of care on an ongoing basis, and provide direct feedback, counsel, and coaching to drive practices and processes and overall company performance
  • Responsible for facility operation and maintenance
  • Ensures efficient, timely, and quality engineering / manufacturing of assigned products
  • Ensures optimum utilization of overall capacity within the facility
  • Provides leadership in conjunction with People team relative to labor issues including safety, security, employee relations, scheduling, training, etc.
  • Delivering quality, on-time solutions for our client
  • Collaborate with multi-functional business leaders including those in Supply Chain, Sales & Concept and Estimating, Aftermarket and the UK to drive results
  • Responsible for product line gross margin
  • Directly responsible for performance and leadership of our Operational functions including Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, Fabrication & Manufacturing
  • Leads continuous improvement efforts while ensuring all operations functions are constantly seeking and implementing productivity improvements, technology advancements, and cost control measures
  • Directs the layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods and work force utilization
  • Assume a hands-on style to operational leadership that emphasizes teamwork and collaboration with a strong customer focus. Drive accountability for results yet be supportive and effective at developing individuals to assume greater levels of responsibility and personal contribution.
  • Implement and drive Customer Trust system. Earn our customers’ trust through development and delivery of exceptional solutions, delivered on time, and without warranty issues. Work with entire team to continually drive improved operational performance as measured by key indicators from continuous improvement and through the application of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Acts as liaison among other functional areas to achieve a more efficient flow of intra-company information
  • Ensures, Assembly, Fabrication, and Engineering are all working in concert (e.g., information sharing, work planning, resource allocation) to meet project schedules
Education/Experience:
  • A proven-track record of driving Operations in identifying and driving areas or improvement (including Lean and Continuous Improvement methodologies) across a site or department, resulting in improved product margin, profitability, and performance
  • Experience building and leading Operations programs and team; experience in capital equipment, or complex systems manufacturing is desired; multi-business/product line execution in one site a plus
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Business Management, Engineering or relevant discipline is desired, MBA a plus
  • 5+ years’ experience leading Engineering or Operations including people management and P&L responsibility.
ADA Requirements:
  • Occasional exposure to typical manufacturing production physical hazards.
  • Stand, walk, bend, reach or otherwise move about regularly.
  • Domestic and International travel by air and/or car – <10-15% of the time.
  • Lift, move, or otherwise transfer items up to 30 lbs. occasionally.
  • Typically sits, grasps items, and performs keyboarding for regular operation of a computer.
