We Are Real.
Real is a venture-backed mental health care company based in New York City. We’re a team of innovators, clinicians, and technologists on a mission to make caring for our mental health a priority. We're redesigning mental healthcare through a digital platform and in-person experience, integrating empathy, design, and progressive care to build the most elevated end-to-end mental healthcare experience, while also improving the quality of care itself. We’re not simply “normalizing” mental health care, we’re celebrating it.
We’re looking for a Director of BizOps & Strategy who is passionate about mental wellness . You will work directly with the leadership team, reporting into the CFO, to manage and drive key strategic and operational initiatives. This will involve leading high-priority cross-functional projects while ensuring alignment and accountability across the leadership team and greater organization. This will involve collaborating with executives to design and implement processes that will enable our business to scale effectively, as well as serving as a liaison between leadership and various internal and external stakeholders. You will work within strategic and financial planning, goal setting, board, and investor updates, fundraising, and more.
In the first three months, you will develop a strong understanding of the business objectives, how teams work, and the key internal and external stakeholders needed to accomplish goals. You will drive the annual planning process alongside the CFO, and ensure OKRs come to fruition. You will also prepare quarterly Board materials and investor updates, as well as summarize Board materials and takeaways designed for broader company-wide visibility.
You will be a thought partner to the CFO, CEO and all executives in strategic and financial planning, goal-setting, and operational initiatives and directly lead a range of cross-functional efforts and strategic initiatives across the team. Over the course of the first year we expect that this person will independently identify needs across the organization and make recommendations to the CFO and greater leadership team on which to prioritize and how to address these needs.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
Strategy Management and Leadership Support:
  • Identify and close any communication gaps, create and clear downstream and upstream communication channels.
  • Work closely with Senior Leadership to ensure that every project we choose to execute both supports the goals of the organization and has a high likelihood of success
  • Manage the annual planning process, maintaining a pulse on business performance and OKR progress at all times, keeping CFO and leadership informed on major blockers
  • Help to instill a culture of adherence to process in all cross-functional efforts
  • Function as the overall project management leader within the organization for strategic and tactical projects
  • Act as a thought partner and liaison on key priorities for CFO and leadership, work internally and externally to drive outcomes
  • Drive efficiency and productivity of the company, streamlining business initiatives, managing programs, and communicating cross-functional objectives
  • Stay close to the key operating metrics of the business to identify and raise key focus areas
  • Collaborate with functional leaders to define, prioritize, and develop strategic projects from idea to completion
Investor Relations and Fundraising:
  • As requested, gather necessary information into decks for one-off investor updates
  • Assemble materials for monthly board meetings
  • Maintain investor network and communication cadence
  • Prepare monthly investor updates
  • Develop subsequent fundraising decks as needed for future rounds
Special Projects & Research:
  • Assist the CFO with ad hoc strategic and operational projects
  • Partner with the leadership to explore strategic issues, vision, org growth and culture health
  • Oversee special projects such as new product tests from inception to completion, working directly with leadership to identify opportunities
  • Research market news, trends, and relevant updates as needed
You’ve got:
  • Strong proficiency in OKR processes and project management tools
  • 3 - 5 years of management consulting experience
  • A process-oriented problem solver skillset who can manage complex situations
  • Intellectual curiosity and research abilities
  • Track record of success in building new operational processes and working through ambiguity
  • 3+ years of in-house startup experience
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and fix problems in a hands-on manner when needed
  • Exceptional communication across all levels of staff and all forms of communication
  • Proven capabilities in evaluating operational gaps and weaknesses and communicating to leadership teams
  • Experience using data to analyze performance and drive strategic decision making
The company is based in New York, though the role is remote.
The base salary for this role is between $165-200k depending on skill set and experience level. Our compensation program is geographically-neutral, meaning that we do not adjust our pay ranges based on where you live, so this salary range applies to all candidates.
You are:
Passionate about mental wellness
  • You know the wellness market.
  • You care about the well-being of others.
  • You’re excited to improve mental healthcare and expand the number of people who have access to it.
Excited to build something from the ground up
  • You’re a self-starter; you don’t need instructions to get work done.
  • You’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves to get the job done.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced, scrappy start-up environment.
Data-driven
  • You pull insights from data, ensuring new ideas come from member experience and utilization.
  • You seek data and know how to collect more of it when needed.
  • You are excited to receive feedback and grow.
A team player
  • You know it takes a village.
We’re committed to your health and happiness (...which are synonymous, you know).
When deciding what benefits should look like at Real, we started by thinking long and hard about what employees need not only to work well, but to live well. Benefits impact how we act, rest, grieve, set boundaries, and take care of ourselves and others — and that means quality benefits are a fundamental part of not just a mentally well company, but a mentally well society. At Real, we want to offer our employees more than just "permission" to occasionally take a vacation or comp a therapy session. We want to give them the support and autonomy they need to feel well and maintain full lives outside of work.
Payout
  • Competitive salary, plus equity in an early-stage startup. Emphasis on “plus”—we won’t use equity to low-ball you.
Healthcare for Full-Time Employees:
  • Free Real membership
  • $1800 annual mental wellness stipend you can put toward therapy, psychiatry, fitness and other wellness services
  • Life insurance
  • Free One Medical membership
  • 100% company-funded health, vision, and dental insurance for our employees. That means no monthly premiums coming out of your paycheck.
  • Short- and long-term disability coverage
  • FSA plans
Retirement for Full-Time Employees
  • 401(k) — we don’t match yet, but you’ll thank us for the compound interest later.
Vacation
  • Unlimited PTO…that we actually encourage you to take, we promise.
Rest
  • Four-week paid sabbatical after five continuous years of work at Real.
  • Four day work weeks Monday-Thursday
Floating Holidays
  • Three floating holidays in addition to company-wide federal holidays so you can celebrate what’s important to you.
Grief Break
  • Real employees receive two weeks of paid time off in the event of losing a loved one. We know grief doesn’t have an end date, and we also know that “unlimited PTO” isn’t enough for most people to actually take ample time away from work. We want to support the process of grieving by naming this, and offering employees the opportunity to grieve without thinking of work.
Parenthood
  • Competitive paid parental leave and flexible return to work policy.
Autonomy
  • Flexible working environment — if you want to exercise at three PM, go for it.
  • Autonomous work culture. We don’t have to see a green dot on Slack to trust that you’re doing your job.
  • Remote-inclusive team — whether you work from Colorado or NYC, you’re 100% part of the team.
Growth at Work
  • We invest in your career. Our company's growing quickly, and we'll give you the opportunity to do the same. You'll have access to a number of professional development opportunities so that you can keep up with the company's evolving needs and grow your career along the way.
The responsibilities and duties of this position described here are representative of those an employee must perform. This is not a comprehensive list and other duties may be assigned.
