Job Description

Position Title: Director, Global Workplace Design & Project Delivery
  • This position resides within the Global Real Estate & Workplace Evolution (GRE & WE) organization.
  • The role reports to the SVP, Head of GRE & WE, who is based in New York.
Position Location: NYC Office / 1211 6th Ave
  • Hybrid: The expectation for this role requires 3+ days per week in office, which must align around business interactions, project delivery activities, and presence with clear purpose.

About The Role/Position
Dow Jones GRE & WE creates and maintains an inspiring office portfolio of engaging, effective, and evolving employee experiences and workplace offerings. The Director will be responsible for developing, managing, and administering the Global Workplace Design & Project Delivery program for Dow Jones.
Primary Responsibilities/Accountability
This new hire will ensure the smooth running of the Workplace Design & Project Delivery Program with accountability for driving best practices and ensuring our service catalog is developed with clear SLAs and KPIs, which should be measurable and performance managed. The Director will also work in alignment with and support of the GRE & WE Regional Leads, as well as News Corp to ensure enterprise excellence and consistent best practices.
You Will
  • Request and review quotes from vendors to confirm they align with budget, onboard new vendors, partner with sourcing on RFPs and contracts, create purchase orders, and receive invoices for all workplace projects.
  • Collaborate with News Corp to ensure consistency around workplace standards as well as target workplace usage and design metrics, aligning, when possible, to mutually leverage architects, engineers, PM services, design development, and construction documents on shared projects.
  • Evaluate capacity, vacancy ratios, and space allocations, to accurately track organizational space needs. (This will require alignment and partnership with Regional Leaders and the Workplace Evolution Manager).
  • Manage expectations and the planning process for renovations, reconfigurations, and relocations across global offices.
  • Oversee the project delivery administration process in assuring work products are in compliance with documented design intent.
  • Maintain accountability for employee and office relocations, with your team serving as the main point of contact for employees on all aspects of user group moves. (This will require alignment with the Regional Leaders).
  • Lead project meetings to keep the team focused and on schedule aligned with a developed scope of work and timeline.
  • Review construction plans for internal quality assurance and control, confirming they adhere to the design intent and align with project goals.
  • Develop and manage the annual capital and operational budgets for global workplace projects. Gather cost for the initial budget analysis, track project spending, monitor expenditures, update the monthly capital outlook for Finance, and ensure vendor relationships and payments are managed on time as well as within budget.
  • Ensure the team is developed to provide assistance and coverage support in the above area.
  • Oversee documentation produced by staff, redlining drawings, coaching and mentoring team members on technical aspects of work, quality control policies, and procedures.
  • Actively ensure as-built floor plans are maintained throughout the portfolio.
  • Work with user groups to conduct annual space needs assessments and work with Regional GRE & WE leaders to translate into real estate footprint requirements when applicable.
  • Leverage the supply chain to research and develop furniture specifications for projects, supply furniture dealers with plans and specifications, handle procurement of goods, track deliveries, and schedule furniture installation.
  • Report to the SVP, Head of GRE & WE and be based in our New York City office (hybrid - 3+ days a week)
  • Manage, develop, and recruit talent to support the ongoing Workplace Design & Project Delivery responsibilities around Dow Jones global real estate portfolio. (There are currently to two (2) internal resources who will report to this Director, as well as external supplier partners.)
  • Manage reinstatement of offices when leases are terminated in partnership with the Regional Leaders.
  • Prepare the package and file for Tenant Improvement Allowances with the landlord after construction completion.
Required Qualifications
  • 7-10 years of internal/end user experience supporting workplace design and delivery requirements.
  • 12 years of experience in workplace strategy, project management, business case development, capital planning in alignment with business objectives, and working with various external A&D, Project & Construction Management, and Facilities supply chain partners to deliver an effective and engaging workplace experience.
  • 5+ years of people management experience, with a focus on talent development and career progression.
  • Experience working in a corporate setting, with the curiosity to understand a company with a broad variety of business units with differing office space and hybrid workplace needs.
  • Ability to work independently, while leveraging your direct team, organizational peers, suppliers, and while fostering a solution oriented mindset to overcome obstacles in the way of program and project success.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent field experience.
  • Experience understanding and manipulating portfolio data, and translating into a consumable executive presentation/business case.
  • Willingness and ability to travel globally, up to 10-15% of work hours, sometimes on short notice.
  • Ability to translate data and create workplace strategy business case proposals, including financial analysis and value propositions.
  • Facilities management experience and ability to read/translate architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Terrific interpersonal skills and an enthusiastic personality, to aid in forging bonds of trust with your internal customers, contributing to our Future of Work / Workplace Evolution strategy, and ensuring strategic advisory services that enable Dow Jones employees to deliver the best work of their careers.
