As the Deputy Director of Investigations, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in program and project management, leadership, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Additionally, you will have the chance to work collaboratively with a team of like-minded individuals who are passionate about promoting transparency and justice. This experience can be highly valuable for anyone interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement, non-profit management, or a related field. Furthermore, our organization places a strong emphasis on professional development and growth and providing opportunities for volunteers to expand their skill sets and take on new challenges.
The Deputy Director of Investigations will be responsible for overseeing and implementing investigative strategies aligned with NightOwl Reconnaissance’s mission in tandem with the Director of Investigations. We are seeking a candidate with strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills who has experience in open-source intelligence, witness interviewing, and data analysis, as this position plays a key role in program and project management, evaluation, case management, and maintaining confidentiality protocols and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Director of Investigations in managing the day-to-day operations, including managing, assisting, and coordinating with several small teams of volunteers.
Evaluate research data and open-source intelligence on missing persons cases.
Evaluate witness interviews and information related to missing persons cases.
Assist in the development, preparation and submission of investigative reports to law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of investigations and ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Passion for the Cause: As the position is unpaid and requires an altruistic motivation, it is important for candidates to have a genuine passion for the organization's mission and values.
Relevant Education or Experience: While formal education or experience is not always necessary for volunteer positions, relevant education in fields such as law, journalism, or data analysis can be helpful in performing investigative work. Experience in an investigative setting, program management, project management, or non-profit administration would be valued.
Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to analyze complex information and develop solutions to problems is crucial in this role.
Creativity and Innovation: The ability to generate new ideas and approaches to investigations in uncovering new information.
Attention to Detail: Investigative work often involves reviewing large amounts of data and information, so being able to pay close attention to detail is important.
Strong Communication Skills: The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing is essential in this role, as you work through findings with a team and report findings to stakeholders.
Time Commitment: The time commitment for this volunteer position is approximately 4-8 hours per week, depending on the specific needs of the organization.
