Job Description
TRC is a national engineering consulting and construction management firm that provides integrated services to the environmental, energy, and infrastructure markets. TRC is seeking a highly motivated professional to take on the role of the Deputy Director for the existing practice in our growing operations in the Mid-Atlantic. This position is responsible for profitable growth, mentoring, and managing of an existing engineering design practice.
Position Overview
Deputy Director for the Mid-Atlantic Design Management Services practice within the Infrastructure sector. Working with the Mid-Atlantic Director for DMS and broader leadership team to provide strategic leadership within the Mid-Atlantic market, with a focus on driving organic and acquisition enabled growth.
Job Responsibilities
  • Financial Responsibilities such as practice and office level budgeting for the fiscal year; providing utilization of the Practice; and, putting in place the expectations and system to ensure a successful financial impact on the office.
  • Provide leadership such as providing clear expectations that are measurable through KPIs; conducting performance assessments, providing ongoing feedback, and providing a sounding board for direct and indirect reports; creating a top-tier organization by selective hiring and providing mentoring/training to new staff members
  • Technical Accountability such as developing, maintaining, and championing of quality requirements, procedures, and goals as issued by TRC and required by clients; providing QAQC as needed; and, reviewing and providing input to individual client teams for procedures to be utilized to ensure quality control.
  • Ability to oversee the execution using engineering best practices on a wide variety of projects for a wide variety of clients, adapting to new environments quickly. Multi-tasking is a must within this environment.
  • Work with the Mid-Atlantic Director to oversee performance of Mid-Atlantic design management operations and project managers -- profitability, budget control, AR/unbilled, proposal review and development, contract approval, and overall business management functions.
  • Business Development such as promoting and capturing new business opportunities for TRC with focus on Practice specific opportunities; retaining existing clients and contracts for repeat business; and promoting and facilitating new opportunities for TRC with existing clients outside of Practice/Sector
  • The individual will be responsible for collaborating with TRC's technical leaders to support and expand water, wastewater, municipal, and land development business lines; develop and execute a profitable growth plan to serve clients in the region; and create a stronger TRC presence in the broader Mid-Atlantic (VA, DC, MD, DE, NC,) area.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 15 years of related experience in managing staff in municipal, transportation, state, or land development engineering. Must have experience working with cross disciplinary teams.
  • Active Professional Engineer License in Virginia, Maryland, and/or DC preferred;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for communicating with staff and clients
  • Must be flexible, well organized, accountable, and dependable
  • Experience with clientele such as Municipal, County, State, and Commercial experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Applicants must be able to effectively manage and build a staff; coordinate with subconsultants; integrate well with existing multidisciplinary TRC staff; interact successfully with clients and other stakeholders; and efficiently manage project budgets and schedules.
