DESCRIPTION

The Director of Finance is responsible for the financial strategy and oversight of the company. This position serves as the financial business partner for the senior leadership team and has the responsibility for all accounting, reporting, and analytics insuring one source of accurate information for all areas of the business. This position will work closely with the leadership team to execute the division's business plans and drive growth and profitability. It is vital that the Director of Finance be collaborative in developing and implementing financial strategies, partnering with the COO in many areas of the business, and owning results alongside the senior leadership team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounting

  • Leads and supports prompt closing of books on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis (providing analysis of all variances)
  • Leads effective cost control, develops and maintains effective cost control and compliance policies
  • Reviews journal entries, depreciation and amortization schedules, fixed assets, lease accounting entries, and inventory reconciliations.
  • Ensures audit-ready financials and organized supporting documentation for Dylan’s Candy Bar, Dylan’s Entertainment and Dylan’s Candy BARN.

Treasury

  • Monthly review of sales tax filings and ensures registration and on-time payments to individual states. Ensures timely response of sales tax correspondence from individual states.
  • Responds to and steers sales and use tax inquiries and audits as they arise.
  • Partners with external tax consultants for annual federal and state income tax reporting and filing. Prepares all necessary statements and supporting documentation.
  • Oversight of cash management and ensures all bank accounts fully reconciled
  • Ensures semi-annual filing and payments of NYC commercial rent tax
  • Oversight of company Tax
  • Maintains all banking relationships
  • Leads all treasury functions including annual, quarterly and monthly cash flow projections.

Reporting and Analytics

  • Provides thought-leadership on appropriate KPI’s and metrics to best present to the organization how the company is trending toward achieving objectives as well as education around why they are pertinent
  • Perform ROI analysis and advise on key initiatives, category launches and investments
  • Leads process development (both within and outside of the finance team) to improve timeliness, relevance, and accuracy of financial metrics, reporting and KPI’s
  • Establishes and holds buying team to quarterly purchasing budgets (open-to-buy). Acts on deviations between demand planning and fiscal plan.
  • Leads annual and quarterly budget planning and works with senior management to ensure the plan and financing match the corporate strategy. Provide regular feedback to departments and business units on actual vs planned spend and execute corrective actions as needed in relationship to sales development
  • Leads all regular financial and non-financial KPI/metrics reporting to both internal stakeholders (stores, e-commerce, wholesale departments, etc.) and external stake holders (the senior management team and board)

General and Administrative

  • Serves as fiduciary for company 401k plan
  • Responsible for annual insurance renewals including product and general liability, cyber security, D&O, commercial property, and employment practice. Maintains relationship and selection of insurance broker(s).
  • Serves as first point of contact for all legal topics for the company, ensuring legal protection and compliance. Assesses need for external counsel. Partners with Assistant Chief of Staff in maintaining contract database and timeline and milestone points of agreements and contracts.
  • Partner with Operations on annual Net Suite renewals and establishing IT priority projects
  • Partners with HR and represents the finance department to ensure that all company initiatives can be effectively and most importantly efficiently measured. Advises on company expense reimbursement policy. Participation in annual 401k audit.

Leadership

  • Works with Senior Leadership Team and support teams to consistently strive for efficiencies in all support functions, while maintaining exemplary levels of customer service
  • Follows company policies, upholds professional standards, and performs all work in a manner respectful of others
  • Provides leadership to a team of minimum of 5 members.
  • Influence senior leaders’ decision-making capabilities through focus on key reports and metrics
  • Lead Senior Leadership meetings to drive strategy and financial performance
  • Encourages strategic thought on important initiatives, and business drivers

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Excellent project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects of complex scope
  • Excellent communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, persuade and collaborate with business leaders, franchise owners and government representatives
  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting/finance concepts, principles, procedures, regulations and reporting requirements
  • Appreciation of Dylan’s Candy Bar unique culture, entrepreneurial attitude, heritage and passion for its products
  • Exemplary Excel skills
  • Self-starter, proactive, ability to prioritize and shift focus with ease and flexibility - excited to dive in, build quickly and drive output
  • Experience in 3-to-5-year planning and high growth planning in various distribution channels.
  • 7+ years accounting and finance experience; combination of public and private experience preferred. Clear path of increasing responsibility should be demonstrable.
  • NetSuite experience preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership skills; ability to achieve results through others
  • Demonstrates a high degree of integrity and enforces and upholds all company policies
  • Financial strategy and accounting experience in fast moving consumer goods and retail companies preferred.
