Salary:Salaries at GGF are dependent on applicable salary scales, internal pay policies including equity considerations and budget. The salary range for this position for someone in the USA as per workband E is between $100,875 and $134,500.

In 2023, Global Greengrants Fund is amid a strategic journey in which we collectively center our values, including diversity, equity and inclusion, and organizational care in our work, and to rediscover our identity and potential after 30 years of work. We have experienced tremendous growth over the past two years and we are thoughtfully, yet rapidly, growing our annual grantmaking, our philanthropic advocacy, and our global partnerships and collaborations to new levels. The Director(s) of Philanthropy needs to understand the challenges and opportunities that come with these transformations and is able to remain flexible, steady, and adaptable while inspiring the team through change.

The roles

Global Greengrants Fund is looking to hiretwoenergetic and passionate individuals who will provide leadership to developing and implementing a values-aligned philanthropic strategy and leading our development team to meet our philanthropic goals. The Directors of Philanthropy have full-time roles sharing and balancing the responsibilities for strategic development and strategic implementation working complementary to ensure integration and cohesion. This deliberate structural design is in response to, and acknowledging, that developing and implementing a philanthropic strategy, guiding the team in meeting philanthropic goals and providing coaching and mentoring to the team as a whole as well as supporting individuals to thrive requires a collective and shared approach. It is therefore envisioned that the right candidates will deepen and develop a co-director model to align with the core values of shared leadership and democratic decision-making as well as to strengthen the complementarity of the skill sets and strengthen sustainability and impact of these roles; it needs to be more than two individual Director roles working together.

In taking up these roles, the successful individuals will be instrumental in:

• Develop and implement team strategies and ensure that the team has the tools and resources they need to thrive.
• Ensuring an integration of information and learning for the philanthropic team through working closely with relevant other functional areas.
• Creating a values-aligned philanthropic strategy,centeredoncommunity–centric fundraisingprinciples and an aim to shift harmful philanthropic practices, to build and sustain relationships with donors and partners across the organization’s fundraising portfolio, including through individual giving, major gifts, institutional donors, community development and other creative philanthropic means.
• Creating the revenue strategies, reporting and accountability to ensure we reach multi-year revenue goals, meet fundraising targets quarterly, and provide the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees the revenue tracking and predications they require, overseeing fundraising operations towards a goal of +$30M.
• Creating strategies for inspirational donor engagement and learning to meet the growing annual budget needs and to ensure long-term commitments, building diverse, multi-year, reliable funding to support Global Greengrants’ work.
• Ensuring collaboration and integration within and across the US Organization, the US Philanthropic team, and the UK organization.
• Leading the philanthropic team in meeting their day-to-day needs to reach philanthropic goals and self-management in alignment with the organizational vision for self-organized collaboration.

The Directors will come into the role as part of a team of approximately 40 staff, in an organization which is financially stable, with a strong culture grounded in a commitment to learning and growing and mutual accountability. Directors of Philanthropy are members of the External Relations team, and in the present accountability structures are line managed by the Vice President of External Relations while building and working in more self-organized and collaborative ways.

The candidate profile

Successful applicants will have significant relevant experience in similar roles in non-profit environmental, development, social justice, feminist, gender, human rights organization, and/or funding organization. They should have demonstrated experience in creating global philanthropic strategies that address a need to diversify funding and meeting the evolving needs of a growing and transforming progressive organization. Crucially, being comfortable with outreach to donors, securing meetings, and soliciting gifts, they have a track record as a successful fundraiser and leader at an organization equal to or greater in size as Global Greengrants Fund. They also have a track record of developing and maintaining donor relationships that are politically aligned with the vision and values of the organization, at the $1 million level and stewarding such donors effectively. They demonstrate abilities to create a values-aligned environment of trust, equity, and accountability to our work and mission, and ensures involvement of the team in developing strategies and in the sharing of information. They should have excellent interpersonal understanding, relationship building and interpersonal skills to build strong alliances with diverse constituencies and manage complex politics, positioning, and relationships. They also thrive in a virtual environment, motivated to take on challenges and collaboratively find innovative and creative solutions.

Personal characteristics

The successful candidates will be rooted in feminist politics, while pushing the boundaries of philanthropic discourse and be comfortable holding and articulating a radical vision that seeks to go beyond conventional thinking. They will be transparent and adaptive leaders with a commitment to lifelong learning and a drive to mentor, coach, and share leadership and who are able to intellectually drive the vision and ensure that there is space and opportunity for others to come along on its transformational journey while taking meaningful purpose-driven actions. They will have skills to give, receive and work with feedback constructively, with the intellectual and emotional resilience necessary to take up critical responsibilities for an international global organisation. Relevant lived experiences related to GGF’s work and community would be an advantage. Multiple language skills would be ideal, while English fluency is a must.
