POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Crime Prevention Coordinator applies the principles and methods of crime prevention, communications, public relations, public information dissemination, public education, community organizing and citizen motivation to effectively interact with citizens. Main objective is to promote the program to the community in a positive manner. The Crime Prevention Coordinator (CPC) works with the community to decrease crime. Make professional public presentations (e.g., Neighborhood Watch meetings and community safety programs) throughout the county to citizens, businesses, community leaders, schools, and the media.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The ability to present to school age children, adults, and seniors including groups as large as 300.

· Build and maintain cross-functional relationships with county and municipal law enforcement agencies, commissioners, and community stakeholders.

· Collaborate in police department functions such as Night Out, Celebrating Safe Communities, and participate in organization Annual Awards Ceremonies.

· Capable of coordinating or scheduling multiple meetings alongside law enforcement officers’ schedules.

· Demonstrate the ability to quickly learn and retain information regarding safety and new crime trends.

· Setting up presentation displays and manning booths at community events.

· Geographic knowledge of Miami-Dade County borders, districts, and municipalities.

· Developing and providing public service announcements for organizations podcasts or media content on crime prevention programs.

· Create daily, weekly, and monthly documentation of services provided.

· Must be able to travel for trainings, and conferences.

· Must be flexible to work some nights and weekends.

Required Qualifications: Requires an Associate degree in public relations, communications, education, criminal justice, social sciences, or a related field.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Work Environment/Physical Demands: Must handle and respond to upset, angry, hostile and/or verbally abusive citizens on the telephone and in-person during individual and group contacts. Required to work evenings conducting individual and group meetings and providing follow-up services. Required to travel extensively within Miami-Dade County, including high crime areas. Required to stand for long periods of time during group presentations. Must be able to move objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

Licensing and Other Requirements:

• Current State of Florida driver’s license.
• A background check will be required for candidates selected for this position.
