Job Description

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Chief Advancement Officer serves as a key member of the Inglis Executive Team. This is an exceptional opportunity for a creative, strategic, relationship- and goal-oriented individual to further develop and implement the organization’s fundraising program, marketing and communications strategies, advocacy and community relations initiatives by developing and strengthening relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including individual donors, foundations, corporations, partner organizations, government leaders, elected officials, trade associations, and members of the communities in which Inglis operates.

Working closely with the Advancement Committee of the Inglis Board of Directors, this seasoned professional will have overall responsibility for planning and strengthening fundraising and strategic positioning events, annual solicitation campaigns, corporate and foundation grant application submissions, as well as communications, marketing, and brand consistency. He/she will work with the Development and Marketing/Communications teams, and Inglis program leaders and staff to develop messaging and initiatives to continually enhance Inglis’ reputation and image throughout Pennsylvania, the mid-Atlantic region, and the nation.

He/she will coordinate the participation of the Executive Team, Board members and other key individuals in the fundraising, grant making, marketing and advocacy processes. The CAO will lead a team of 8-10 staff across three complementary and collaborative departments (Development, Marketing/Communications, Advocacy), set expectations for these department leaders, and promote excellence through well-defined and measurable goals.

The successful candidate will have an extensive background in building external presence, robust stakeholder networks, non-profit fund development, marketing, internal and external communications, and advocacy. He/she will have strong supervisory experience and will be able to demonstrate highly effective management, organizational and planning skills. Equally important, the person who accepts the position must have a passion for the Inglis mission.

This position also strategizes, coordinates and evaluates the advocacy efforts of contracted government relations consultants (lobbyists) and our internal Advocacy workgroup, as well as Inglis’ memberships and participation in appropriate community groups and local, state and national provider associations.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Work in partnership with the Executive Team to contribute to the overall organizational strategy, with a strong focus on how to strategically leverage the Inglis brand in new and industry-leading partnerships.

  • Work with the Director of Marketing/Communications to develop and lead a creative marketing strategy that tells the story of the Inglis mission and its impact on an ongoing basis that considers every element of our programming and maximizes our return on investment.
  • Develop a deep understanding of all Inglis entities and service lines to create an annual comprehensive contributed revenue strategy in partnership with the Development Team.
  • Develop strong partnerships with other mission-aligned entities to leverage our combined strengths to deliver cross-organizational campaigns for marketing, social media, philanthropy and advocacy purposes.
  • Ensure fundraising efforts support the Inglis model and revenue goals. Such model components include individual and major gifts, planned giving, volunteer engagement, and revenue-producing events.
  • Ensure that the Customer Relationship Management System (CRM) is consistently and accurately used to provide a comprehensive view of existing and potential donors.
  • Take a central role in cultivating, soliciting and closing leadership gifts, including identifying and stewarding prospective donors and new Board members.
  • Coordinate the planning, prioritization, messaging and implementation of Inglis advocacy efforts at the local, state and federal levels.
  • Establish revenue plans and implement performance goals, objectives, and action plans; generate buy-in around a data-driven approach to goal setting and benchmarking.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

The following are skills required for success within this position:

· 10-15 years of progressive leadership experience in the areas of fundraising, donor development, internal and external communications, marketing, and advocacy within mission-driven nonprofit organizations.

· Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing or related field; master's degree preferred.

  • Sincere commitment to the mission of supporting people with disabilities to live independent and full lives.
  • Demonstrated experience working with volunteers and staff from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership and supervision of staff in a values-based manner.
  • Proven performance in managing all phases of fund development, marketing, communications and advocacy.
