About this role


The successful candidate will join the EII Global Sustainable Strategy & Governance Team, supporting the US & APAC Governance Lead to evolve and strengthen EII’s sustainable governance framework as the Sustainable industry and regulatory landscape rapidly evolves. The candidate will help drive the completion of critical projects focused on improving EII’s sustainable indexing processes and controls as well as meeting all relevant regulatory and disclosure obligations and external commitments, to ensure we continue to deliver the best outcomes for our clients, strengthen our commercial position, and manage potential regulatory and reputational risks.

This role will provide an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and intellectually curious associate to be part of a dynamic team in a fast-growing segment within the asset management industry. This important role will give the successful candidate an opportunity to be involved in shaping our sustainable strategy and partner closely with many different teams across the EII and BlackRock organization (e.g., regional EII Sustainable Product Strategy teams, Innovation, Research, Marketing, Index Provider Strategy, Legal & Compliance, Public Policy, etc.). You will be an integral part of the team, working on special projects, presentations and communications, industry research and more.


Key Responsibilities


  • External Messaging & Reporting: Help to drive and coordinate responses to sustainable enquiries and consultations from various stakeholders and industry players (e.g., regulators, policymakers, clients, and press). Contribute to sustainable thought leadership, regulatory reporting and disclosures, and other external messaging (e.g., TCFD report)
  • Governance, Process & Controls: Partner across the EII organization to proactively identify and implement opportunities to improve EII’s sustainable processes and procedures, including across areas such as product development, index monitoring, and data strategy
  • Collaborate closely with members of the EII Global Sustainable Strategy & Governance Team, including the EMEA Governance and Global Business Strategy functions, as well as teams across EII and BlackRock to ensure consistency in approach, tight coordination and leveraging of best practices
  • Strategy: Support team in developing and driving regulatory response and advocacy strategy and approach
  • Research: Conduct independent research to stay abreast of developments to the regulatory and policy landscape and market practices that will impact sustainable investing
  • Project Management: Help drive projects from start to finish by assisting in the organization and management of project plans and teams, including (i) setting and managing meetings to track milestones and deliverables, (ii) collaborating with project team members and external partners to think critically about opportunities and risks, and (iii) developing the final deliverable (oftentimes a PPT presentation)
  • Communicate complex/technical information in a meaningful way, including by helping to build briefings for EII senior management and other relevant stakeholders on the risks, opportunities, and implications of pending legislation on sustainable indexing as well as updates on ongoing implementation efforts and initiatives


Preferred Skills/Competencies


  • A flair for creativity and problem solving, a keen eye for detail, and an ability to pick up & digest new information quickly
  • Organizational skills with an ability to balance multiple and conflicting priorities and significant concurrent tasks to meet tight deadlines with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to steer complex, interdepartmental projects in a professional, deadline-driven fashion and the ability to partner at all levels across the firm
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with an aptitude for research and the ability to convey complex concepts simply and clearly
  • Demonstrable interest in sustainable investing and/or other sustainability-link initiatives
  • High-energy, positive “can-do” attitude, and an ability to work as a team player, accept substantial individual responsibility, and proactively create value for the team


Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to analyze large quantities of complex information and data
  • Legal, compliance, or public policy
  • 2-3 years of experience driving strategy or in project management in a complex and dynamic environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Ability to convey key messages / strong writing skills
  • Finance or asset management
  • Experience in the following industries and areas:

For New York City only: The salary range for this position is $109,250 - $130,000. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
