Job Description
The Associate Director of Strategic Partnerships (ADSP) is supervised by the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) and works closely with other staff of the Provost’s Office for Research and Strategic Partnership (R&SP) to operationalize, maintain, and grow relationships and partnerships that capitalize on the extraordinary expertise of Pratt’s faculty, students and administrators which can be deployed to address our society’s most challenging issues including climate change and inequality. Maintaining and strengthening this network of relationships with faculty and administrators at Pratt, elected officials, community groups, and other strategic partners is critical to the work of the R&SP and to advancing the overall mission of Pratt Institute. This network creates opportunities through partnerships for research, teaching, and learning which also strengthens our partners and helps build a more equitable and sustainable city and planet.


Responsibilities Include


  • Supporting relationships with potential partners including community organizations, business leadership, faculty, elected officials and the philanthropic community.
  • Communicating strategy effectively throughout Pratt Institute.
  • Ensuring suitable metrics are in place to measure success and progress within our strategic partnerships.
  • Monitoring execution of collaboration initiatives.
  • Collaborating with leadership within Pratt and with our partners, special committees, and consultants to execute strategies.
  • Identifying and seeking potential funding sources including government funding.


Immediate Priorities


  • Support the CSO in managing the relationship with the New York Climate Exchange, a new nonprofit organization created to implement and operate a climate research center on Governors Island. The Climate Exchange is a partnership between Pratt, Pace University, Georgia Tech, Stony Brook, Good Old Lower East Side, IBM, BCG, and a growing number of community groups and other stakeholders. A high priority is developing and supporting a network of community partners to ensure they have access to services responsive to their needs.
  • Provide liaison support with Design Works High School, a new public school developed by Pratt, Bank Street College of Education, and the Department of Education that emphasizes interdisciplinary, project-based learning through co-design.
  • Assist the CSO in managing the Provost Centers in meetings, mentoring for research development, and fundraising.
  • Managing the relationships supporting The Research Yard (TRY) a recently launched initiative to accelerate research and strengthen both outward relationships with community groups, other academic institutions and businesses. TRY is a partnership with the Brooklyn Navy Yard where it is located and City College of Technology (City Tech). TRY is home to Pratt’s research centers and specific faculty projects selected through a competitive process. The ADSP will have primary responsibility for managing the TRY which includes direct contact with the participants, the staff at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and City Tech, future staff of TRY, raising funds for TRY general operations and project-specific expenses, and ensuring that operational needs of TRY are met.

  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience in advancing social, racial, economic, and environmental justice.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Commitment to working as a member of a team and the ability to weigh and judge the merits of various courses of action.
  • Master's degree in public affairs, education, law, or business development or 5 years of experience in government, education, economic or community development, nonprofit or mission-driven management.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent people skills, including insight, empathy, and engaged listening.

This position is $89,900-$100,900. The position will be Hybrid with the average number of days 2-3 per week in person and travel to other strategic partnership locations required, some regional travel required.
