Kanahoma, a San Diego-based performance marketing agency, is seeking a Vice President, Brand to join our small, but fast-growing marketing team. Founded in 2020 by education marketer Seth Odell, Kanahoma has quickly grown to over a dozen clients and is looking for a VP, Brand to join and grow with our organization.
As the VP, Brand for Kanahoma, you will serve as a key member of the agency’s executive leadership team, owning the organization’s Brand Strategy Product, leading creative operations, and acting as a key creative lead on all applicable agency work.
The ideal candidate will be a strategic, thoughtful, client-facing individual with extensive experience in brand strategy development, creative campaign concepting and production, and overall ideation around product and brand growth, ideally in crowded and complex sectors.
The VP, Brand will be focused on the following:
#1 OWN KANAHOMA'S BRAND STRATEGY PRODUCT
- Participate in new business process, engaging with prospective partners, scoping, and selling our Brand Strategy solution
- Oversee and lead all Brand Strategy work, across our four core phases:
Phase 1: Research
- Facilitate original focus groups, as needed, with key customer groups
- Lead material review process
- In coordination with Kanahoma’s third-party research partner, lead quantitative and qualitative research activities, including web surveys, online and in-person focus groups, and more
- Develop and deliver executive summary reports
- Conduct stakeholder interviews with partners and their customers
- In coordination with direct reports from creative team, conduct competitive analysis
Phase 2: Strategy Development
- Produce Kanahoma’s Brand Strategy Guides
- Engage clients around key strategic decisions
- Conduct brand development workshops
- Develop strategic frameworks
Phase 3: Creative Development
- Lead creative team through creative campaign development process, including concepting, initial client preview sessions, and production of final Campaign Book
Phase 4: Campaign Production
- Lead campaign production activities, including, but not limited to, pre-production, production, and post-production
#2 LEAD CREATIVE TEAM & CREATIVE OPERATIONS
- In partnership with leadership and internal project management support, develop product workflows, align on project flighting and assignment, and address issues of operational concern, as they arise
- As needed, source and onboard internal and external creative resources
- Manage Kanahoma’s creative team, including divisions for Copy, Art, and Video
- Approve time cards, conduct 1/1s, and serve as senior creative operations lead
#3 SERVE AS CREATIVE LEAD ON WORK PRODUCT
- Review creative work, as needed, ensuring such work is on strategy, on brief, and exceeding agency standards
- In conjunction with agency CEO, determine what level of work rises to the need for review by VP, Brand
#4 SUPPORT BROADER AGENCY EXPANSION
- Support agency efforts to expand our offerings and bring unique perspective and experience to assist in rounding out our products and overall POV.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Extremely strong customer service skills and extensive experience in client-facing roles
- 5+ years managing creative or marketing teams
- 5+ years managing creative campaign-level projects
- 10+ years of progressive marketing experience
- Proficient in brand strategy, with a portfolio of work to demonstrate expertise
- 3+ years in education industry
- Agency experience strongly preferred
SPECIFICS:
- Salary: $125,000 - $150,000 (based on experience)
- Hardware: We’re an Apple shop
- Benefits: 100% healthcare coverage, unlimited PTO, 401k benefit w/match, education reimbursement, etc.
- Start Date: Summer/Fall 2023 (Will be actively recruiting through June)
- Location: This is a fully remote position and candidates must reside in and be eligible to work in the United States. San Diego candidates preferred, but it is not required.
Why Isn't This a CD Role?
This position is intentionally not a traditional Creative Director role. We are highly confident in our ACD leadership and the work product of our existing team. Rather, this position is primarily being created to lead and champion the following:
- Serving as the singular operational lead for the Creative Team
- Provide key executive-level leadership to a fast growing agency
- Own our Brand Strategy product and have it serve as our primary creative offering

- We will be recruiting for this role through June 2023, with the plan to onboard in Summer or Fall 2023
