Job Description
Manages and responds to complex student concerns involving mental health through Student Care & Assistance. Responsible for providing oversight for urgent or emergent mental health concerns requiring an immediate response, including emergency response, on-call, and potential transport to appropriate treatment facilities. Coordinates with medical and behavioral health providers and aids in planning and coordinating campus resources through collaborative relationships. Collaborates, and at times, responds with UI Department of Public Safety (UIDPS).


Able to provide case management to address the concerns of students experiencing crisis or emergency situations, including medical, mental or physical health, economic, social adjustment, transitional issues, and other concerns impeding student success. Consults with and serves as a liaison to faculty, staff, students, family members, and others. Identifies and creates additional training, programs, and initiatives to increase support for students in distress. Assists and supports general functions within Student Care & Assistance, Well-Being and Basic Needs, and the Dean of Students organization.

Qualifications


Required Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated analytical skills and risk assessment skills
  • Experience (typically 1-3 years) providing comprehensive advocacy and crisis management
  • Commitment to and alignment with the values of the Division of Student Life, including a demonstrated commitment to excellence through diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and utilize critical thinking skills to prioritize issues/concerns
  • Valid driver’s license and motor vehicle history in order to drive University vehicles
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to provide timely follow-up to emails, messages, meetings, and case notes
  • Models open, respectful, accepting, and supportive behaviors with team members
  • Must be proficient in standard office computer software applications
  • Comfortable working in changing, ambiguous environment. Able to make appropriate decisions and establish best practices.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience


Desirable Qualifications


  • Experience (typically 1-3 years) working with distressed students within an educational institution; preferably in higher education setting
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education/Student Development, Social Work, Counseling, or related field
  • Knowledge of University of Iowa offices, policies, and procedures or Iowa City community resources
  • Training and/or demonstrated experience in student crisis and emergency situations
  • Experience using database software, preferably the Maxient system
