Job Description

Title: Sr. Manager, People Partner

Reports to: CEO

Salary Range: $120-140k

Location: CA

Our Team is seeking an outcome-driven, strategic, and creative HR professional to make an impact on our employees' experience at work. We are looking for a proactive, accountable, entrepreneurial person who is focused on continuous learning to foster a creative and inclusive environment.


Acting as the face of our team, you will work across all HR specialties to create a unified and efficient employee experience. This is an employee and business unit facing role whose core responsibility is the delivery and execution of HR services.


Your responsibilities will include:


Recruitment, Onboarding & Exiting:

  • Conducting full-cycle recruitment processes, including job posting, screening resumes, interviewing candidates, and making hiring recommendations.
  • Managing the offboarding process, conducting exit interviews, and providing support to departing employees.
  • Coordinating new employee onboarding, including preparing offer letters, conducting orientation sessions, and ensuring a smooth integration into the company.
  • Collaborating with hiring managers to understand their staffing needs and developing effective recruitment strategies.

Employee Relations and Policies:

  • Assisting in resolving employee conflicts and conducting investigations as required.
  • Developing, implementing, and updating HR policies and procedures in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Serving as a trusted resource for employees, providing guidance on HR policies, procedures, and practices.

DEI Initiatives:

  • Working with the CEO and leadership team to [develop and implement] diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to foster an inclusive and diverse work environment.

Federal, State, and Local Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Staying up-to-date with changes in legislation and advising management on necessary actions.

Employee Record Maintenance:

  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee records, including personal information, benefits enrollment, and performance evaluations.
  • Ensuring confidentiality and security of employee data.

Leave Administration:

  • Acting as the primary contact for employees regarding leave inquiries and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Managing employee leave programs, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, and other statutory and company-specific leaves.

Performance Management:

  • Assisting managers in addressing performance issues and providing guidance on performance improvement plans.
  • Supporting the performance management process, including goal setting, performance evaluations, and development plans.

Day-to-Day Workday and Payroll Administration:

  • Administering HRIS systems, such as Workday, to maintain accurate employee data, process employee changes, and generate reports.
  • Collaborating with the centralized payroll team to ensure accurate and timely processing of employee pay and benefits.

Frontline Benefits Communication and Support:

  • Acting as the main point of contact for employees regarding benefits programs, explaining options, resolving issues, and assisting with open enrollment.

Cooperation & Coordination with Graham Holdings HR, Accounting, and Audit Teams:

  • Collaborating with centralized HR, accounting, and audit teams to ensure smooth coordination and alignment on HR processes and practices.


Qualifications:

  • Excellent MS Office Suite skills.
  • Proven experience sourcing and leading successful recruitment efforts
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity.
  • 5 years’ experience in Human Resources, preferably in a fast-paced, online media company.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-driven and able to prioritize deliverables and impact in a continuously changing environment
  • In-depth knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulations. Specific knowledge of California employment law and regulations preferred.
  • Prior experience working with an HRIS, preferred.
