The position will manage business inspections for King County's Source Control program with a balance of office and field work. Your valuable contributions, ranging from database management to outreach material production, will directly contribute to safeguarding the environment. Who Are We? The Water and Land Resources Division (WLRD) is at the forefront of King County’s efforts to protect and restore clean water and healthy habitat and strengthen the resilience of communities, environment, and infrastructure in the face of climate change. We are a dedicated workforce of more than 400 supported by an annual budget of ~$250 million. WLRD has a strong track record of developing innovative strategies for protecting working farms and forests, restoring habitat, protecting water quality, and ensuring people have equitable access to green space. We reduce flood hazards, manage stormwater facilities, and reduce toxic threats. Our Environmental Lab and Science sections maintain high-quality data sets used in long term-water quality trend analysis and use Best Available Science to inform decision making. We house three salmon recovery forums and support the Land Conservation Initiative, which will preserve our last, most important natural lands and urban green spaces over the next 30 years. Our forestry and agricultural programs help people protect their lands and support local food production.

Telecommuting Requirement
The work associated with these positions will be performed predominantly by teleworking, complemented with onsite work and meetings as needed. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.
King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will be joining an innovative and progressive team that is redefining how we work as we transition to the department's hybrid environment.
- Assist staff investigating surface water and stormwater quality concerns and problems.
- Conduct pollution prevention business visits at commercial, industrial, and agricultural sites to evaluate and gain compliance with King County Code 9.12 by applying and interpreting best management practices per the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Manual.
Minimum Qualifications:
- One year of work experience managing a pollution prevention program.
- Demonstrated skills as an effective participant in multi-disciplinary team meetings or coalitions.
- Two years of experience conducting pollution prevention site inspections. This position requires excellent communication and negotiation skills with business and property owners, other King County departments, regulatory agencies, and the public and dealing with business operators and members of the public in a professional capacity.
- Demonstrated knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to the programs and type of work described for this position, including the Clean Water Act, water quality standards, NPDES permit program, and King County Water Quality Code.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely, both in writing and orally, to peers, customers, management, and the general public.
- Demonstrated knowledge of source control BMPs.
- Experience in enforcing codes or regulations.
- Knowledge of hazardous/dangerous waste regulations.
- Knowledge and understanding of stormwater conveyance systems, flow control facilities, and water quality treatment facilities.
- Experience in effectively working with communities where English is a second language.

Special Requirements:
- Valid Washington State driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to starting work if selected for this position.
- Work Location: Predominantly teleworking and the King Street Center 201 S. Jackson St., Seattle WA 98104.
- Work Schedule: This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and it is not overtime eligible. This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. The typical work schedule is 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday– Friday, with flexibility upon discussion. This position may be required to work extended and/or flex schedule work hours to respond to service needs.
- Union Membership: This position is represented by Teamsters Local 117.
