Performs various duties in the water distribution, wastewater collection, water quality and meter service areas. Routinely performs investigations of collection lines and interceptors. Documents lines in need of repair or maintenance. Locates manholes and maintains accessibility for routine maintenance. Monitors chlorine residuals in the distribution system and conducts routine flushing to manage water age in the system. During staff shortages and/or increased workloads, assists with maintenance, repairs, and additions to the city’s infrastructure in a safe and timely manner. Operates various pieces of equipment and tools according to proper operation procedures. The employee performs related work as required.

- Routinely inspect sewer mains and interceptors for proper operation.
- Respond to customer water quality complaints.
- Routinely flush dead-end lines in accordance with state regulations.
- Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, laptop; drives City vehicles to work sites, transport materials and assists other staff as required.
- Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with the public and City staff; act in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
- Maintain accessibility to major sewer lines and problem areas.
- Report areas in the collection system in need of repair or maintenance.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to read maps and locate addresses.
- Ability to lean to operate associated software systems quickly and efficiently.
- Good knowledge of the methods and procedures used in maintaining water quality in the distribution system.
- Ability to read and accurately record analytical data, pressure gauges and meters.
- Good knowledge of principles and procedures of customer service.
- Good knowledge of basic arithmetic.
- Good knowledge of safe work practices.
- Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Ability to lean troubleshooting methods and techniques to analyze problems in the field.
- Ability to maintain consistent attendance.
- Maintaining accurate records of work performed.
- Ability to utilize computer hardware and software relating to work and field equipment.
- Good knowledge of the geographical layout of the City and the location of sewer and water lines.
- Ability to work in the field under adverse weather conditions and to stand and walk for long periods of time.
- Ability to create and distribute multiple reports in the software systems.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Good knowledge of operational characteristics of chlorine analyzers and pressure gauges.
- Must have a Distribution and a Collections licenses issued by the TCEQ
- Possession of a valid Class C driver license
- Must have high school diploma/GED
- Must have good knowledge of the Denison distribution and collection system
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening, background, and motor vehicle record check

- Duties are performed daily both indoors and outdoors under all weather conditions and include exposure to inclement weather, noise, heavy traffic conditions, exhaust fumes, and pesticide.
