About the position:


The Sr. Director reports to the DSVP of Strategic Partner ship s and is responsible for leading a team of 3 Business Development/ Fundraisers that are accountable to our Emergency Response and Readiness growth programs, leads our Cause Marketing and Thought leadership functions and will develop our growth in fundraising in the Sports and Entertainment sector.


Strategic Partners is a department within the division primarily responsible for stewarding Americares financial relationships with foundation and corporate donors. This 15-person team has a revenue goal of approximately 20 million in FY2022 (60% for core budgeted priorities and 40% for incremental programs and disaster responses).


The Sr. Director will be an integral part of this team and will oversee a small portfolio of current independent/private foundation partnerships and prospects with an eye to significant portfolio growth. They will support the DSVP in the design and implementation of fundraising strategies, programs and activities that enable AmeriCares to generate significant funding from foundation donors, an identified area for significant growth in order to support AmeriCares increasing global programmatic presence. The position will serve as the coordinating lead where AmeriCares strategic program development initiatives intersect with Strategic Partners (Institutional Relations).


More than a “grant-writing” position, the Sr. Director will be responsible for developing and advancing a rich “Foundation Relations” strategy, building strategic partnerships with potential funders and leading a team of 3 persons to do the same. As such, an ability to travel and build personal relationships with foundation officers is a key requirement.


Key Outcomes:


  • 1 year – Employee will implement, achieve business development forecast and objectives for yourself and assigned team
  • 90 days - Employee will understand the existing portfolio base, align and secure renewals and focus on upgrading long term partners.
  • 6 months – Employee will steward in new opportunities, outreach to new partners, secure new deals within our key programs.


Duties and Responsibilities :


Foundation Partnerships


Fundraising


  • Working with the VP, develop a dynamic proactive sales approach that includes identifying, researching, evaluating, and soliciting at least 15 new prospects;
  • Support the DSVP in the development of strategic and tactical relationship building and formulation of fundraising plans to include both short and long-term strategic objectives with AmeriCares foundation partners;
  • Will lead a team of 3-4 persons in the strategic direction of gaining new business and upgrading existing business
  • Develop and implement ideas to generate new revenue; make presentations and lead meetings; develop compelling proposals and grant submissions, assure regular reporting in compliance with donor stipulations, cultivate manage and grow key relationships and serve as the primary interface for a portfolio of key accounts and prospects;
  • Originate and steward relationships with independent foundations working in partnership with global programs teams to identify programmatic opportunities that will open doors with prospects;
  • Develop and implement ideas that help position AmeriCares as a thought leader in global health and emergency response and position us well for significant foundation funding.
  • Maximize opportunistic fundraising initiatives and aggressively pursue those that have potential for significant return;
  • Cultivate strong relationships with internal (and external) decision makers who influence and impact foundation strategies and who can initiate new opportunities to deepen current partnerships and expand AmeriCares prospecting pipeline;


Internal


  • Support the VP in budget development, forecasting, and reconciliation as it relates to the Foundation portfolio;
  • Work with Development and Marketing & Communications to develop effective marketing tools e.g. PowerPoint presentations, proposals, reporting documents, etc.;
  • Work cross-functionally with AmeriCares staff to implement strategies, programs and activities that will support fundraising for specific emergency responses, incremental targeted initiatives, special events and the web;
  • Attend and participate in Development team and all-staff meetings.


Other


  • Research initiatives - set the research priorities for IR team and manage the process including reviewing and analyzing new donors in order to make portfolio recommendations and support programmatic funding objectives.
  • Primary liaison for Institutional Relations on strategy and program support activities (projects outside of core fundraising priorities). Coordinates closely with global programs to drive independent foundation participation in collaborative funding initiatives;
  • In addition to the job description listed; the Sr. Director will be responsible for securing new business/ identifying new potential outreach and disaster fundraising as directed by the organization / DSVP.

  • You have language in at least one of our core languages: Spanish, Tagalog, Hindi, Kiswahili, Haitian Creole (this would be a plus, but is not a requirement)
  • You have raised at least $10 million in your previous roles
  • You have a strong track record of securing new business
  • You have 10+ years in Sales & Business Development and previous experience booking deals or revenue 1 million or greater
  • You have demonstrated experience and success in cross- collaboration
  • You have worked in a variety of fund-raising industries, or with different types of sectors in healthcare
  • Y ou have US work authorization ( required )
  • You are knowledgeable about pharmaceuticals
