Communications Coordinator

CAIR San Francisco Bay Area is hiring a Senior Communications Coordinator who will amplify Muslim voices and perspectives in different forms of media and raise visibility within the American Muslim community about CAIR's work and services.

 

Schedule Type: Full-time (Non-exempt). Occasional evenings and weekends required.

Location: Based in CAIR's Santa Clara office. CAIR-CA staff are currently working a hybrid schedule, with three days in-person and two days remote.

Requirements: Ability to travel throughout the Bay Area (vehicle and driver's license required); authorization to work in the United States; COVID-19 vaccine and booster. 

Reporting Relationships: Reports to the Communications Manager

 

Duties And Responsibilities

• Prepare team members to speak at various press conferences and events; including developing talking points, speeches, presentations, and other supporting material
• Work with the development department in aligning public relations and donor relations strategies and communications
• Maintain CAIR-SFBA's social media accounts, including content creation and curation
• Maintain CAIR-SFBA's social media accounts, including content creation and curation
• Develop and implement an integrated, organization-wide strategic media and public relations plan
• Write and publish website and email newsletter content
• Develop CAIR-SFBA and related CAIR-CA publications, including drafting, reviewing, editing, and strategizing distribution
• Collaborate with CAIR-CA and CAIR National Communications staff on press releases, reports, programs, and initiatives
• Ensure content reflects CAIR's voice, style, message, and branding; ensure branding and tone are consistent across numerous stakeholders and multiple media platforms
• Participate in the CAIR-CA Communications Committee to share resources and streamline efforts across the statewide organization
• Serve as a primary media contact for the organization, including coordinating media requests and follow up
• Assist with other external and internal communications duties as needed

Other duties as assigned, dependent on organizational needs and employee skills. All CAIR staff are required to assist in general duties such as answering phones, weekly outreach, and other office tasks.

Required Qualifications

• At least four years of experience in communications work
• Ability to remain flexible and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines
• Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet strict deadlines
• A strong commitment to civil rights and CAIR's mission
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills with outstanding attention to detail
• Thorough knowledge of social media tools, including YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn
• Experience working with Asana, Canva, Constant Contact, Photoshop, Illustrator, and WordPress
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong time management skills with a demonstrated ability for meeting deadlines
• Experience managing and writing copy for social media
• Basic computer proficiency including knowledge of MS Office, MS Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat
• Foundational understanding of design and visual elements and how to create simple yet effective graphics
• Comfort working productively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
• Strong initiative and demonstrate the ability to learn in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision
• Working knowledge of the media landscape, including mainstream and alternative outlets

Preferred Qualifications

• Video editing proficiency
• Experience working in a masjid, MSA, or other non-profit organizations
• Experience with growth marketing
• Experience with public speaking, in-person and/or on camera

Compensation

• $34.27-42.84 commensurate with skills and experience
