Position Overview
Scout Executive/CEO – 300
Serves as chief executive officer of the council and gives direction to the operations and administration of the council, subject to the authority and direction of the executive board. Serves as the secretary for the council, the executive board, and the executive committee. Serves as an ex-officio member of all committees of the executive board. Is responsible for strategic planning, council and Boy Scouts of America objectives, fiscal stability, membership and growth management, and for volunteer and community relationships for the Scouting program and unit service within the council. Carries out other duties of the office as set forth in the council bylaws, Article VI Officers and Committee Members, Section 6.
Resumes and Cover Letter are due June 20th. These documents will be shared with the selection committee. Cover letters should provide information supporting local council competencies/profile.
Responsibilities
Will be responsible for effectively managing the local council with revenue of $2 million to $3.9 million.
- Membership: Establishes an action plan that results in balanced growth so all qualified youth may participate. Build relationships by selling Scouting’s program opportunities to community leaders, organizations and businesses.
- Administration: Provides general direction to the work of the council to ensure an efficient council operation.
- Other job-related duties as required.
- Finance: Develops, in cooperation with the finance committee, a budget based on the council’s resources.
- Personnel: Recruits and trains a full complement of volunteers and staff to fulfill the council’s objectives.
- Programs: Directs Scouting programs in the council including public relations, training, activities, camping, etc.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
Qualifications
Desired traits, experience & skill set of the new Scout Executive
- Experience in planning and driving a successful membership recruitment and retention effort.
- Proven leadership of a non-profit youth program with safety requirements enforced.
- Has knowledge and experience in developing and implementing strategic plans.
- Direct experience with fundraising efforts and building/cultivating community and business contacts. Successful capital campaign experience.
- Ability to lead in a diverse and inclusive culture like Hawaii.
- Present to lead professional and volunteer staff through positive, in-person interaction.
- Has a proven track record of successfully managing and building staff capacity.
- Ability to engage and communicate effectively with the board, staff, community members, units, and district level volunteers.
