What’s the role?

The US C&I Natural Gas team is tasked with the growth and retention of the commercial and industrial (C&I) end user portfolio, assisting customers in minimizing their energy costs and exposure to commodity risks. Shell holds a broad footprint in this space, with access to sizeable, reliable gas reserves across the U.S., and backed by one of the industry’s largest trading operations. We offer a suite of pricing and volume management solutions that are tailored to each customer’s budget and risk appetite. Our success is driven by a strong collaboration with our regional Trade desks, providing competitive offers and market intelligence to customers across the country.

The Retail Account Manager (RAM) is responsible for the meticulous day-to-day management of gas and power customers, primarily end users. The position holds margin creation responsibilities including the execution of term customer renewals and daily incremental trades that are in alignment with regional Trade desk positions. RAM functions also include optimization of customer deliveries on a daily and monthly basis via usage forecasting and delivery balancing to meet strict utility requirements, minimize supply costs, and prevent penalties. Commercial targets must be met in terms of margin requirements, customer retention rates, and penalty prevention. This role also provides support to Shell Energy Solutions (SES) in the execution and management of C&I power deals.

The position will report to the Lead US C&I Retail Account Manager, focusing primarily on our customer base in the Desert Southwest and Pacific Northwest markets.

Accountabilities:

  • Timely modification of customer volume delivery plans under Entitlements/Critical Day/OFO conditions
  • Support as a backup for SENA long term RA portfolio Manager
  • Engage with Shell Energy Solutions (SES) origination team to support and manage California Power Retail accounts as key Shell Energy North America (SENA) SME
  • Serve as a market and tariff expert for multiple gas LDCs and power ISOs, staying abreast of balancing/cashout mechanisms and evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Respond to RFPs for West Region wholesale power and gas accounts
  • Price customer hedges for power and gas commodities, in addition to environmental products via frequent communication with the Trade desks
  • Work on issue resolution with SES origination, as well as support power retail teams across both SENA and SES
  • Optimize short term SENA RA portfolio by working with brokers and generators, and submitting RA supply plan to CAISO on a monthly and annual basis
  • Volume management for customer accounts including monitoring and forecasting of usage, balancing deliveries versus consumption, supply optimization, prevention of penalties, and if necessary, allocation of penalties.
  • Effective communication with Gas Settlements to resolve any invoicing concerns.
  • Partner with C&I Origination to build and maintain productive relationships with customers base.
  • Support pricing for a subset of Wholesale customers in the Utilities, Municipal, and Community Choice Aggregation space
  • Ensure detailed and accurate capture of customer transactions in systems of record (Endur and Nucleus) along with retail workbooks
  • Partner with SENA wholesale origination to build and maintain productive relationships with the customer base
  • Engage with stakeholders across the life-of-a-deal, including SMEs in Trading, Origination, KYC, Credit, Finance, Contracts, IT, Scheduling, Risk and Settlements.
  • Contribute to the delivery of Gross Margin and Economic Profit results related to the C&I end user customer base in the Western U.S. Power and Gas Markets
  • Strong collaboration with Gas Operations to ensure delivery plans are clear, and to receive customer usage
  • Strong collaboration with Trading, staying abreast of market pricing conditions and drivers of market change
  • Strong collaboration with trading, staying abreast of market fundamentals, pricing conditions and drivers of market changes

Challenges:

The C&I customer base provides a predictable position to the Trade desk. The retail product is a unique offering in Shell’s suite of solutions for end use customers as they embark upon the energy transition.

Proper management of the retail C&I portfolio by the RAM team is key to preserving this portfolio, with many opportunities for generating incremental value.

Customer engagement, strong understanding of changing market fundamentals, and detailed volume management are critical to the customer experience.

This is a highly complex and demanding role in a dynamic and continuously evolving space of the commodity business.

We seek members who can build on our business vision, are prepared to accept accountability, and can achieve great results through teamwork and collaboration.

What we need from you

  • Strong Excel skills required

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business or a related field of study is required
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Must communicate effectively internally and externally across many groups in order to accomplish the goals of the team
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and meet multiple, strict time sensitive deadlines is required

The base salary range for this position is $101,000.00 – $151,000.00 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
