OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE
The Cell Engager team of Takeda's Oncology Drug Discovery Unit is looking for an in vivo lab-based scientist to join a collaborative and dynamic team. Contribute to pre-clinical projects by developing well-defined mechanistic experiments and projects within oncology research. The candidate should have a foundation in immunology and/or cancer biology with proven skills in molecular biology and in vitro/exvivo assays in oncology drug discovery reserach. The candidate will play a critical role in supporting key pipeline programs tied to Gamma Delta concepts as well as other immune engaging mechanisms. The position will require the individual to be hands-on. The individual will collaborate and demonstrate effective communication and documentation of results with key stakeholders in the ODDU (IOI, C2H) GB, DSRE, DMPK, Translational teams and CTI. Provides theoretical/conceptual input to the design, development and execution of well-defined projects within the area of expertise. The selected candidate will provide technical leadership for research project implementation and coordination.
Accountabilities
  • Provides information to project teams to influence direction, align with departmental goals and/or business
  • Collaborates with others across sites, and acts as scientific resource for in vitro pharmacology
  • Prepares and presents comprehensive technical or project reports and formal presentations
  • Strives towards expanding scientific knowledge in immunology
  • Provide scientific knowledge and expertise in antibody evaluation, gamma delta T cell biology and molecular biology.
  • Drive assay development and implement new methods for a diverse range of immunology-focused and translational assays.
  • Serves as the in vitro rep or lead on projects providing key scientific feedback to advance programs in a matrixed environment.
  • Receives high level instructions on work; determines methods on new assignments; demonstrated greater independence.
  • Initiate investigation of new experimental approaches to specific problems using scientific theory, data from external partners, and technical literature
  • Generate over-expressing cell lines via lentiviral transduction to study the target’s functional biology and run high throughput screening of target antibodies as needed
  • Assist with external collaborations with CROs as needed
  • Optimize, execute, and troubleshoot in vitro assays including flow cytometry-based experiments to test the binding of antibodies to various targets, functional assays to evaluate the activation or suppression of T cells in response to the antibodies, and reporter cell line-based assays for cell signaling.
  • Demonstrates in-depth technical in vitro and gamma delta T cell biology knowledge
  • Conducts scientific presentations to internal audiences
  • Independently manages own workload
  • Able to clarify requests and provide suggestions and put data into context especially in context of study design and quality of data
  • Participate on cross functional project team meetings to provide key scientific insight
  • Help with isolation of skin and blood derived VD1 cells working closely with CE and CTI team members
  • Maintain laboratory notebooks and follow laboratory practices in compliance
  • Contributes to IND report and documentation.
  • Isolate, culture, and differentiate various immune cell populations (VD1 cells, MDSCs, T cells, monocytes, etc).
  • Ability to multi-task effectively and prioritize workload
  • Develop assays to identify new biology related to Vd1 engager MOA
  • Analysis, interpretation, and presentation of data to important partners, and play an active role in the subsequent scientific discussions leading to important decisions and program-ensuring next steps
  • Help with 2D/3D based assay systems to dissect cell cell interactions
  • Help with external collaborations with CROs and establish new protocols
Education, Behavioural Competencies And Skills
  • MS with 3+ years experience or BS with 5+ years experience with previous industry experience strongly preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
  • Excellent team player with a can-do attitude with an ability to thrive in a dynamic “biotech- like” environment and work in cross-functional project teams
  • Hands –on experience with multi-color flow cytometry, ELISA, MSD and other standard cell based and non-cell based biochemical assays is required.
  • Uses defined practices and theoretical knowledge to perform analysis, interpret results and determine appropriate action
  • Proficiency with in vivo efficacy rodent models, including mouse syngeneic, xenograft and PDX models is required.
  • Identifies, plans and executes well defined scientific projects
  • Interprets results of complex experiments
  • Self-motivated, collaborative with excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Use of scientific databases and application for data management and data analysis (Graph Pad Prism, Soft Max Pro, Office 365, FlowJo etc)
  • Initiates investigation of new experimental approaches to specific problems using scientific theory and technical literature

  • Strong experimental skills, including mammalian tissue culture, in vivo model development, drug administration by multiple routes (IV, SQ, IP, PO, RO), and blood/tissue collection. Cell culturing and maintaining human tumor cell lines and primary human cells with best practices in tissue culture is critical
  • Utilizes relevant information, technology and resources, contributing to complex team problem resolution and objectives

Base Salary Range 87,500.00 to 125,000.00. Employees may also be eligible for Short Term and Long-Term Incentive benefits. Employees are eligible to participate in Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 401(k), Charitable Contribution Match, Holidays, Personal Days & Vacation, Tuition Reimbursement Program and Paid Volunteer Time Off.
The final salary offered for this position may take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, location, skills, education, and experience.
