Research Associate, Fidelity Asset Management Solutions


The Department


With over $625 billion in assets under management, Fidelity Asset Management Solutions (FAMS) is a leading provider of asset allocation solutions for institutional and retail clients. The range of investment solutions includes target date funds, target allocation funds, income and real return strategies, managed volatility strategies, alternative investment, and custom institutional solutions.


The Team


The Asset Allocation Research Team (AART) consists of 13 members in Boston, Massachusetts under the leadership of the Managing Director of Research. The team leverages quantitative, qualitative, economic, and market insights to provide robust, research-based recommendations to investment teams across the Asset Management division of Fidelity Investments. With diverse backgrounds in economics, finance, political science, engineering and math disciplines, the primary focus of the research team is providing strategic and dynamic asset allocation insights for Fidelity Asset Management Solutions (FAMS) and Strategic Advisers (SAI). The team also produces thought leadership and broad asset-class positioning and insights to the broader Fidelity asset management community and to Fidelity’s clients and distribution channels.


The Role


Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Asset Allocation Research, the research associate will work closely with the research analysts on the Asset Allocation Research Team and other colleagues to support day-to-day research needs. You will play a role in developing and communicating key conclusions to the investment staff. The position is located at the company’s headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts.


The Value You Deliver


  • Contribute to AART’s analysis of global macroeconomic trends including timely business-cycle developments as well as longer-term themes. Participate in research activities involving active asset allocation signals, longer-term capital market projections, and strategic portfolio construction and design.
  • Through the application of fundamental economic and investment analytical tools, undertake projects across a wide variety of both macro and investment-related topics. This includes self-initiated independent work, as well as collaborative on team projects.
  • Assist with programming and automation of econometric models, Excel, and Powerpoint chart updates. This includes developing and providing clean data and charts for both internal research and external thought-leadership publications.
  • Provide updates, both written and verbal, that communicate key economic and investment trends and their investment implications. This includes regular interaction with investment teams across Fidelity asset management.

  • Excellent Excel and programming skills required

  • Strong academic record and/or 2-4 years of meaningful work or internship experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability and confidence to work effectively in both independent and group settings
  • Validated interest/experience in conducting research projects
  • Capable of completing multiple tasks at a time with great organizational skills
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and interest in global events, history, economics, and finance
  • Undergraduate degree in Economics or significant economics course work with a Finance or related degree
  • Experience in econometrics (coursework or work related)
