Associate Research Scientist In Vivo


We are seeking an Associate Research Scientist for In Vivo Pharmacology with an innovative mindset, great attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively to join our dynamic research team at Bayer Research & Innovation Center in Cambridge, MA.


This lab-based position will collaborate with the in vivo pharmacology team to study effects and dissect the mechanism of action of therapeutic lead candidates and play a key role in supporting our extensive drug discovery platform from early discovery through translational research.


In this position, you will work with in vivo oncology models and also be responsible for executing experiments to quantify molecular, cellular, and physiological readouts, in addition to supporting in vivo studies.


Your Tasks And Responsibilities


The primary responsibilities of this role, Associate Research Scientist for In Vivo are to:


  • Collect, analyze, interpret data and maintain thorough electronic lab notebooks and documentation records;
  • Perform animal dosing, sacrifice, biopsy or tissue collection, sample processing and ex vivo analysis;
  • Present study observations and data within cross-functional program meetings as well as all company scientific meetings;
  • Assist in external collaborations with CROs.
  • Design and execute oncology-related mouse studies to test efficacy, tolerability, PK/PD and MOA of novel oncology therapeutics with minimal supervision and deliver comprehensive high quality data sets to help decision-making;
  • Establish and maintain in vivo disease models (CDX, PDX and syngeneic tumor models);
  • Assist in IACUC animal protocol development and animal ordering;
  • Ensure that laboratory notebooks are consistently updated, audited, and well maintained;

Required Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated ability for drug administration by multiple routes (PO, IV, IP, SQ, IT);
  • Independence with routine laboratory work, and enthusiasm for learning new research methods/techniques.
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, with excellent oral and written communication skills; Holding high standard of scientific integrity;
  • Working knowledge of fundamental molecular biology techniques applicable to ex vivo tissue analysis;
  • Proficiency with in vivo oncology models, including CDX, PDX and syngeneic tumor models;
  • Hands-on experience with small animal imaging modalities, i.e., bioluminescence (BLI) and/or nuclear imaging (PET/SPECT);
  • Proficiency with caliper measurements and clinical scoring endpoints to evaluate pre-clinical anti-cancer therapies;
  • Bachelor of Sciences Degree;
  • Demonstrated ability with blood collection (via different routes, i.e., tail vein, submandibular, cardiac puncture), necropsy, and tissue collection;


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Working knowledge of data management and statistical analysis (Graph Pad Prism, Office 365, etc);
  • Experience with Western blot, ELISA, flow cytometry, qPCR, RT-qCR, MSD, in situ Hybridization (ISH), RNAscope and other standard cell-based and non-cell based biochemical assays;
  • Hands-on experience in orthotopic tumor modeling and aseptic surgery techniques (e.g., castration);
  • Bachelor of Sciences with at least six years relevant experience or Master of Science with at least four years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience in Mammalian cell culturing and maintaining human tumor cell lines and primary human cells;
  • Knowledge of gene therapy or gene editing techniques.
