Job Description
We have a 3-year hybrid Release Manager contract opportunity in Sacramento, California. Our client Business Contract Manager shall provide a plan for on-site and remote work for the selected candidate. This contract may be extended for up to an additional 3 years. The anticipated start date is August 2023.
Our client is seeking a Release Manager that will be supporting and coordinating activities related to environment changes for testing and releases. This highly dynamic and fast paced project requires a dedicated Release Manager to manage, coordinate and monitor the migration of code through each of the project environments.
The Release Manager will review and provide feedback on appropriate project deliverables such as Implementation Plan, Transition Plan, Systems Operations Plan and ensure adherence to release management processes and tasks as documented in the approved project deliverables. The Release Manager shall plan release windows and the overall release lifecycle into project environments like user acceptance testing, training, production etc. to optimize environment allocation and usage.
The Release Manager will ensure all releases being deployed to the project environments meet the quality standards of the project before it is made available to the environment users.
The Release Manager will work with the project teams to ensure deployment adheres to the planned deployment window and any issues encountered during or after the deployment are prioritized and remediated by the assigned project teams.
Anticipated Tasks
  • Reports status of scheduled migration requests non-production.
  • Review application staging test results and recommend approval for production migrations.
  • Reports status of operating system maintenance.
  • Assist in enforcing waterfall SDLC for the entire project by interfacing RM activities with JAMA, a Requirement and Defect tracking tool.
  • Reports status of batch job schedule changes.
  • Serve as a communication point for application environment events.
  • Perform builds using TFS and related tools of code based on Microsoft technology to deploy a C#/.Net web- application using a SQL Server backend DBMS into many n-tier Windows environments.
  • Assesses the impact of operating system changes prior to and after implementation.
  • Update Release Management schedule.
  • Coordinate activities and serve as a point of contact with business contingency plan and during disaster recovery events.
  • Transfers knowledge to appropriate client employees, along with any requested materials, and content for transfer of knowledge.
  • Represent our client interests in Release Management working as an assistant to the vendor's Lead Release Manager.
  • Coordinate and document change schedule for Operating System maintenance with various client stakeholders and teams.
  • Reports status of database maintenance production.
  • Assesses the impact of application database changes prior to and after implementation.
  • Represent the project for application events at our clients' Change Advisory Board (CAB) meetings and create change requests for CAB.
  • Deploy to various environments as per schedule including training, development, numerous UAT environments, Staging, numerous SIT, and numerous conversion environments.
  • Assesses the impact of migration requests (production changes) and application service functions, prior to and after implementation.
  • Reports status of database maintenance non-production.
  • Communicate schedule changes with various groups.
  • Coordinate and provide business approval for changes that are ready to migrate to non-production and production environments including Disaster Recovery.
  • Maintain all Release Management lists (environment, emails, etc.).
  • Reports status of scheduled migration requests production.
  • Coordinates data refresh for applications.
  • Reports status of scheduled operating level commands and service programs used to support application functions.
  • Debug any build, deploy, or automation failures Work with cross-functional teams to arrive at a solution, if necessary.
  • Coordinates with client staff that have been assigned release management tasks.
  • Understand Release Management's role in the waterfall SDLC.
  • Perform Release Management duties for SQL data refreshes.
  • Coordinates and documents change schedule for application and in-scope application databases maintenance.
  • Participates from the client side for all application solution activities during implementation/cutover.
  • Assesses the impact of batch job schedule changes.
  • Coordinates and documents batch job schedule changes.
  • Documents risks and issues associated with project releases and bring awareness to the client project management team.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5 years of code deployment and environment support including SQL data refreshes in multi-staged environments that follow a waterfall SDLC and include system test, user acceptance test, pre-production/staging, and production/disaster recovery environments, with each environment having possibly different configurations.
  • 3 years of hands-on experience using Microsoft Team Foundation Server to manage releases and perform builds for a web-based application on an N-Tier architecture based on Windows servers using Microsoft's C#, .Net, and SQL Server technologies.
  • Operated at an advisory level, consistently interacting with IT and line-of-business senior management to improve Release management processes.
  • Facilitated change management relationships between the Change and Release management team and technical production operations and development teams.
  • 3 years of experience enforcing a waterfall SDLC.
  • 36 consecutive months of hands-on release management and/or environment support experience in large enterprise system environments and/or government environments demonstrating the following:
Desirable Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science/information technology from an accredited university (Our client may request a copy of degree).
  • Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio and scripting language(s) (e.g. PowerShell), to automate repeated tasks, Requirements Management and Defect Tracking software (e.g. JAMA).
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and analytical skills with the ability to work collaboratively with technical staff and other project managers in a multi-vendor environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional work teams in a multi-vendor environment working toward task completion.
  • Ability to develop detailed technical project schedules.
  • 2 years of experience at a client with preferred experience on Sagitec Neospin solution.
