Nevada Conservation Corps Recruitment Coordinator


Founded in 1999, the Nevada Conservation Corps (NCC) is a well-established statewide environmental program with more than 175 annual participants. The NCC Recruitment Coordinator’s primary duties are leading aspects of program outreach, recruitment, and volunteer on-boarding. This position works closely with the NCC Program Director and Compliance Coordinator to support all aspects of AmeriCorps compliance as it relates to policies and procedures, paperwork/file processing, participation tracking, and reporting for the Great Basin Institute’s (GBI) NCC AmeriCorps program.


Essential Job Functions may include the following or other duties as assigned:


  • Screen, interview, and complete applicant reference checks.
  • Maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
  • Maintaining professional and courteous appearance and demeanor.
  • Perform other tasks/ projects as assigned.
  • Advertise and market all available volunteer and employment opportunities via GBI’s website, on-line job boards, newspapers, social media outlets, posters, public presentations, job fairs, community events, etc.
  • Assist with program and organizational reporting.
  • Performing related duties as required or directed by management.
  • Lead weekly outreach & recruitment meetings to provide regular updates to program staff on the status of recruitment efforts.
  • Generate, distribute, collect, file, and monitor submission for all required AmeriCorps volunteer paperwork.
  • Promoting effective communication.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with colleges/universities, professional societies, non-governmental organizations, and other sources to maintain program visibility for potential candidates.

This is a Full Time position available to start immediately.

Based at GBI offices in Reno, NV The “Biggest Little City in the World” the greater Reno-Sparks metropolitan area has a population of over 435,000. The city is a high desert landscape ~4,500 feet above sea level, at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains along the Truckee River, as it flows from Lake Tahoe to Pyramid Lake. Weather is mild, but with distinct four seasons. Reno offers easy access to world-class outdoor recreation including driving distance to Yosemite and Death Valley National Parks, the Pacific Ocean, and California redwood forests. Closer to home, Nevada boasts more natural hot springs than any other state in the country, over 150 named mountain ranges, and 30 peaks over 11,000 feet. Recreation and entertainment includes eight major ski resorts in proximity to the Reno-Tahoe airport; fishing and boating on Lake Tahoe, the Truckee River, and Pyramid Lake; cultural festivals throughout the summer along the banks of the Truckee River; a thriving food scene and more.


Compensation And Benefits


  • 4hrs Vacation Accrued per 80 hour pay period; Accrual starting first day of employment.
  • 4hrs Sick Leave Accumulated per 80 hour pay period; 40 Hours Annual Maximum Sick Leave Accumulated and Used; Accumulation starting first day of employment.
  • Wage: $20.12 - $21.75 per hour, DOE
  • 4% 401K Matching Contribution after 90 day waiting period; 100% vested on first day of enrollment.
  • This position is eligible for paid holidays following the GBI holiday schedule.
  • Full Health, Dental, Vision Insurance paid 100% by GBI. Eligible to enroll first day of month following first day of employment.


Job Qualifications


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily carry out each essential duty.   • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Applicant Tracking and Human Resource Information Systems.
  • One year of work experience with Conservation Corps or in the non-profit sector preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, detailed oriented, and highly motivated to seek continuous improvement.
  • Experience with AmeriCorps or community volunteer management preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic office environment, and to consistently enact high performance standards and a strong work and team ethic in support of the goals and objectives of GBI.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Possess a clean, valid, state-issued driver’s license
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and in a calm and pleasant manner.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to read and write checklists, reports, and correspondence. Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, memos, etc.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and ability to share skills and knowledge with others.
  • Ability to analyze and perform complex computations with reasonable speed and accuracy. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all applicable units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Meet requirements of federal agency security background checks (e.g., FBI criminal and National Sex Offender Public Registry, Department of Interior Security Screening).
  • Bachelor’s Degree or certification in Human Resource Management preferred.
