Job Description

Midstream oil and gas client is seeking a member of a small payroll team located in Houston, Texas, participate in bi-weekly payroll processing of multiple payrolls for 1,000+ employees in 11 states with unique work rules, pay structures and payroll tax jurisdictions. Primary functions include timecard processing, time and benefit adjustments, additional pays, garnishments, voluntary deductions, paycheck auditing and review, balancing, processing corrections and final reconciliations.


*Ceridian payroll software, Located downtown, paid parking, hybrid work schedule.

Key Duties:

  • Perform job functions in compliance with established Sarbanes-Oxley controls, government rules and regulations, company policy and line of business pay practices.
  • Provide short-term relief to reception when needed.
  • Communicate with business operations management and timekeepers to ensure accurate payroll processing.
  • Complete verbal and written verification of employments.
  • Run and balance various biweekly reports to distribute to appropriate departments.
  • Interface files with various outside vendors.
  • Prepare biweekly payroll by verifying time records and uploading data into payroll system; resolve any timesheet discrepancies.
  • Monitor wage attachments to include recording receipt of orders, responses, processing deductions in accordance with federal and state wage attachment guidelines, monitoring bonus payments with appropriate communication to agencies, termination communication to agencies.
  • Respond promptly and accurately to employee inquiries and requests.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Manual check processing to include final checks, void/replacements, missing timecards, off-cycle payroll runs.
  • Provide backup to payroll colleagues when PTO requirements are necessitated.
  • Ensure processing of new hires, transfers, rate increases and terminations are processed timely and accurately.

Required Skills, Experience, and Education:

  • Ability to work overtime when requested
  • 3-4 years of payroll processing experience
  • Must be knowledgeable of FLSA and other payroll regulations
  • Is consistently at work and on time; ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent; arrives at meetings and appointments prepared on time
  • Must have the skill to prioritize and plan work activities; work independently; use time efficiently; complete work efficiently and accurately with regular interruptions
  • Must be a self-starter; responsible individual who demonstrates accuracy, attention to detail and thoroughness
  • Proficient using MS Office Suite, including Outlook, Word and Excel; must be able to use simple formulas and mathematical functions in Excel; prefer strong Excel skills (Vlookup, Pivot tables, If/Then statements) a plus
  • Ability to lift and move boxes up to 20lbs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and strong customer service skills
  • High School Diploma or GED
