Position Summary

Salary range for this position is: $64,000/yr. - $72,829/yr. (depending on experience)

Under the supervision of the Director of Pre-apprenticeship Construction Training (PACT), the Outreach, Placement, and Retention Coordinator is responsible for building relationships with identified apprenticeships, community organizations and other non-profit or government programs, scheduling on-site appointments or presentations, and identifying community partners to support the successful placement of PACT participants into apprentice programs or construction related jobs and improve participant retention after placement. As part of the Outreach and PACT teams, the Coordinator leads the outreach and recruitment efforts to identify potential PACT participants. The Coordinator is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with relevant employers, apprentice programs, and community organizations that lead to referrals of participants to PACT training, direct entry apprenticeship and employment in the construction industry and retention services for participants after placement. The Coordinator leads outreach and recruitment activities, such as job fairs and community events with a specific focus on recruiting underrepresented populations, including communities of color, formerly incarcerated, low income, female and immigrant populations. The Coordinator will also build relationships with identified apprenticeships, community organizations, K12 organizations, correctional facilities and other non-profit or city and government programs to improve entry, placement and retention of PACT participants. The Coordinator works with the PACT team to share program responsibilities and goals

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-SPS

What you will be working on:

  • In collaboration with the College's outreach team, provide outreach to individuals through event format and one-one communication, specifically targeting underrepresented communities
  • Administer and aid all annual enrollment processes and prepare placement reports and facilitate in community participation
  • Determine all placement requirements and assist all apprentice participants to exchange all information appropriately
  • Expand individual support after job or apprentice placement through regular check ins with participants and connections to community organizations and educational and workforce resources as well as community and trades workshops, events and trades fairs
  • Represent PACT at local and regional construction trades and industry meetings
  • Prepare all resumes and conduct interviews with all students and aid all graduates and review all procedures of placement department
  • Outreach through regular one-one and group meetings, site visits and events with community organizations, employment counselors, Work source affiliate sites, K-12 and youth organizations and correctional facilities to identify recruitment and retention opportunities and resources
  • Maintain strong relationships with apprenticeship coordinators and identify and coordinate trade tours, including carpenters, painters, and glaziers, iron workers, electricians to increase placement and post placement retention of PACT participants
  • Promote all placements of graduates to various prospective employers through phone, in-person, email, and fax
  • Strengthen existing partnerships with the city, port, apprenticeship coordinators Direct Entry and Targeted Local Hiring, as well as numerous construction firms and community agencies through regular communication and collaboration

What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)

  • Strong organizational and community organizing skills
  • Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with a diverse client population, staff, students, community, employers, public agencies, and labor
  • Strong verbal communication, advocacy, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Computer Skills which include proficiency in Microsoft suite and Adobe applications
  • Four or more years of experience working with diverse adult or youth populations providing the following: recruitment, and/or employment placement services, instruction, and counseling; OR, Related work experience and completion of an apprenticeship program and attainment of journey level status (or any combination of above)
  • Ability to prioritize assignments, meet multiple timelines and reporting requirements
  • Extensive service in one or more of the cultural communities served by the PACT program

Physical Requirements:

The position

  • Is regularly required to provide 1:1 support, present to small groups, and work at a computer exercising repetitive hand motion with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office.
  • Encounters frequent interruptions throughout the workday.
