Salary: $53,885.27 minimum to $67,356.58 mid-point annually (Depending on Qualifications)
This position is responsible for the internal and external response to temporary encampments resulting from people experiencing homelessness. Requires strong communication and project management skills to coordinate with staff, contractors, outside agencies, and residents to ensure the health and safety of all Mesquite residents. This position will pursue resources, partnerships, and creative solutions.
SUPERVISION
General supervision is provided by the Behavioral Health Manager.
- Respond to phone/email/text contacts, schedule appointments, and provide program information to Southeast Alliance Community Care Team Clients and Behavioral Health unit as part of a comprehensive approach in addressing crises and provide backup emergency assistance and support, when needed.
- Provides case management services for homeless individuals as assigned by Behavioral Health Program Manager, by assessing needs, developing and monitoring case plans, connecting individuals with community resources, and advocating for participants for long-term solutions.
- Communicate professionally, courteously, and effectively with other city employees, officials, and the public.
- Research and verify various information as assigned; assist in the review and evaluation of City and department policies and procedures; participate in the development of new policies and procedures.
- Effectively uses therapeutic interventions to assist patients with accomplishing all treatment plans goals and objectives.
- Conducts street outreach to homeless populations, as well as provides assistance at designated facilities and resource centers to those in need.
- Preventive efforts to reduce encampment needs. Help optimize the effectiveness of homeless navigator work to provide services.
- Design, write and coordinate the preparation of informational materials, brochures, pamphlets, invitations and correspondence for distribution within the city and to other related external businesses and governmental agencies; including coordinating and completing various surveys.
- Performs homeless needs assessments and referrals for homeless individuals.
- Enters data into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) and HUD IDIS system, as requested.
- Drive to and from destinations as assigned.
- Ability to work with people of all social, economic, and cultural backgrounds; be flexible, open-minded, and adaptable to change.
- Maintains a current working knowledge of social services available in the local community, particularly homeless services available to patients with limited or non-existent payment resources.
- Refer participants to needed social services, and coordinate with other agencies and programs to ensure support services are available to the participant, including access to education/training opportunities, job search and placement, and retention services.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in social work, human services, law, communications, public policy, or a related field.
Four years of any experience working within the social services field may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
EXPERIENCE
Two or more years of case management experience working with the homeless population.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
WORK SCHEDULE
Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM
