About PCG’ s Education Consulting Service Line


PCG’s Education Consulting Service Line works with states, districts, and schools to address a wide spectrum of needs such as curriculum development, instructional resources audits, design and facilitation of professional development and professional learning communities, school improvement, and program reviews.


Project engagements have included the development of the Engage NY grades 6–12 English Language Arts curriculum for the New York State Education Department and the delivery of related implementation services across several states; the design and delivery of a system of a K–3 professional learning program for the Connecticut State Department of Education; and the creation of training and resources to support standards implementation for the Florida Department of Education. We recently collaborated with Chicago Public Schools (IL) to develop a full-year, standards-aligned digital curriculum for PK–12 English Language Arts and mathematics and are providing asynchronous and synchronous professional learning to teachers and administrators to support implementation. Currently, we are also developing a K–5 ELA curriculum in partnership with Pinellas County Schools (FL) to support their transition to the new Florida B.E.S.T standards. We are also partnering with the Texas Education Agency to develop and/or revise a number of curricula to respond to stakeholder feedback, including K–12 Reading Language Arts, K–6 Spanish Language Arts, K–5 Mathematics, K–5 Social Studies, K–2 Spanish Skills, K–5 Science, and K–5 Integrated (Science, Social Studies, Reading Language Arts).


The Opportunity


PCG’s Education Consulting service line seeks a Curriculum Lead for a highly complex and exciting Music curriculum development project for a major urban district. The project provides motivated individuals a unique opportunity to support educators and students in actualizing the Illinois Arts Learning Standards in the creation of a custom curriculum committed to equity and inclusive of local arts. The Music Curriculum Lead will oversee the content team, including lead writers and writers, through training, drafting, and revision processes to ensure the overall coherence of the PK–12 curriculum. The Music Curriculum Lead will support the content team throughout a highly creative, iterative, and collaborative development process to produce lessons that are rigorous, engaging, and meaningful to students. Specific responsibilities and skill/experience requirements are detailed below.


This is a remote role, with occasional in-person meetings. Some travel may be required. The anticipated start date is May/June 202 3 , with the possibility of an earlier start for candidates with availability. The projected end-date is January/February 2025 , with a potential opportunity for an extension, dependent upon schedule finalization with the client.


Responsibilities


The Music Curriculum Lead will:


  • Contribute to the development and refinement of instructional and technical specifications and oversee adherence to the specifications that will be documented in project requirements.
  • Provide supervision and support for lead writers.
  • Work closely with advisors from identified partner organizations (e.g., SEADAE), project leadership, and client content team in a rapid development process, including leveraging these advisors in the conceptualization of the curriculum and in forging connections with local arts providers, coordinating workflow with partners as appropriate and engaging them in quality assurance to ensure alignment to client
  • Provide leadership for content team in the implementation of instructional and technical specifications, as well as overall quality assurance and on-time delivery of deliverables.
  • Develop grades PK–High School Music curriculum
  • Identify and act upon opportunities to improve processes, operations, and client services.
  • Collaborate with project team to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of the Music curriculum, as well as integration of all four artistic processes.
  • Partner with the PK–12 Visual Arts Lead to ensure consistency of approach (as appropriate) and share best practices for reviewing and providing feedback on grade-level deliverables in support of their lead writers.
  • Commit for the duration of the project (anticipated to be through June 2024) with opportunity for future work.
  • Support lead writers in the f ormal review of draft deliverables and model providing actionable written and verbal feedback for writers to apply.
  • Develop model deliverables that comply with specific design criteria and for implementation in a digital environment, including core lessons and additional review, support, and challenge lessons to support the development of the artistic processes.
  • Collaborate with project management and operations teams to ensure that established processes and structures are appropriately implemented.
  • Have availability during regular work week, with some night or weekend work as needed.

Required/Desired Experience


  • Deep content knowledge in music as evidenced by years of teaching, advanced degree, and/or professional arts experience (preferably district-level experience)
  • Experience writing standards-based curriculum at elementary, middle, and/or high school level
  • Master’s degree or higher or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with Google Drive
  • Five or more years teaching experience in K–12 public school setting implementing Illinois Music standards or National Core Arts Standards in Music
  • Experience developing curricular resources for use by other teachers
  • Experience teaching diverse learners, including English Learners and students with disabilities
  • Experience with digital learning instructional design (Prefer red)
  • Previous team leadership experience of 3 or more years


Compensation


Compensation for roles at Public Consulting Group varies depending on a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by applicable law, PCG provides the following reasonable range of compensation for this role: $90,000 - $115,000.
