The Director of Project Development has the overall responsibility of driving and managing distributed project development for a designated market area(s) to complete the development of distributed renewable projects and other technologies projects (i.e. battery storage etc.). The Director will be responsible for the supervision and management of project development activities including project/site selection and contracting, permitting, land acquisition rights, qualification for applicable incentive programs, interconnection application and process, regulatory issues, problem resolution, and support due diligence for potential transactions. The Director will perform these functions themselves and manage a team of other developers.

Responsibilities:
- Continuously monitor the regulations and program rules to ensure projects are being developed in compliance with those requirements
- Oversee site and project acquisition in the assigned markets, in collaboration with the Site Origination team, including establishing purchase and lease terms and rates, negotiating binding agreements with landowners and developers, and assessing the feasibility of sites for permitting, construction, and interconnection
- Conduct weekly development reviews and provide recommendations to management regarding projects development status and issue resolution
- Provide direct support about the sale of projects including obtaining all necessary documentation from landowners, utilities, permitting authorities, and related regulatory bodies
- Perform and manage all aspects of project development, ensuring that the company’s defined development processes are followed by all personnel and for all projects
- Ensure that all project-level reporting is updated and accurate every week in all project development systems. Provide ad-hoc reports as requested by management and ensure that all projects have valid dates and resources assigned
- Provide support for the review of all projects being acquired and or sold including the review of all site control documents, easements, permits, interconnection agreements, program qualifications, PILOT and tax assessments, and all other related project assets
- Continuous Risk Assessment of Projects during the development cycle
- Economic Feasibility and Risk Assessment of potential projects and sites
- Directly manage the transfer of projects entering construction to the Project Management, Construction Management, and Asset Management Teams, including all required documentation, hand-off meetings, and ongoing support during the construction period
- Ensure all personnel are using and maintaining the project development systems. Manage the selection and contracting for outside engineers and consultants to support the development of projects
- Strong organizational aptitude, analytical and decision-making capabilities
- Experience in building and managing a project development team for energy projects, preferably renewable
- Minimum of 5 years experience with contract provisions and terms, market knowledge, regulatory issues, financial analysis, and transaction experience
- Ability to work closely with other teams, business development, and asset management group
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience in energy projects
- Ability to work with project-type work with tight deadlines and concurrent deliverables
- Minimum of 5 years of direct experience related to distributed generation assets and development
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and people
