Headquartered in San Diego with an office in Washington, D.C., West Health includes the Gary and Mary West Health Institute a nonprofit medical research organization and the nonprofit, nonpartisan Gary and Mary West Health Policy Center.

Position Summary

The Director of Strategy, Healthcare will be responsible for identifying, developing, and prioritizing strategies and business development opportunities for West Health projects, as well as bringing them to market to create impact at scale. Key functions will include performing landscape analyses and opportunity assessments, identifying potential partners, and modeling successful collaborations and initiatives that support the West Health mission. The successful candidate will work closely with the organization’s clinical/strategy teams to support internal innovation, organize external partnerships, and plan for spread, scale, and sustainability of projects to maximize impact for West Health.

Position Responsibilities

• Bring an understanding of the dynamics of the healthcare marketplace to assist with designing models of care and initiatives that will be sustainable and impactful
• Maintain and augment strong knowledge base on current and evolving healthcare payment and delivery models, including value-based care, in both public and private sectors
• Work closely with internal teams to assess projects- both underway and pipeline
• Support leadership team in identifying and evaluating high fit/attractive opportunities including both near-term adjacencies and future areas of development
• Understand the incentives and drivers impacting decision-making at both health payor and provider organizations
• Perform detailed financial analysis and develop valuation models for data-guided insights to inform management decisions and resource allocation
• Assist in designing dissemination plans and “go to market” strategies/tactics to drive uptake of new health models
• Perform company, market, competitor, and industry research and analysis

Required Qualifications

• Must believe in public health and science
• Must be up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations and booster shots
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills; ability to present ideas creatively and with impact
• Data and financial analysis skills, familiarity with healthcare financial models
• Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative mindset with the ability to influence and lead others
• Ability to perform in a very dynamic environment with a high degree of initiative and motivation
• Analytical and strategic thinking skills and familiarity with strategic frameworks, previous experience in management consulting or internal consulting/strategy for healthcare organization a plus
• Ability to interact and collaborate with all levels of management and cross-functional teams
• 7+ years of healthcare-related sector

Compensation and Benefits

The estimated compensation range for this position is $145,000 - $190,000.
