Job Description

The Director of Leading & Learning is responsible for enhancing and growing the value proposition of NASSP membership through the planning, development, and enhancement of professional learning programs, event programming, and resources for student and school leaders, and for Honor Society Chapter and Student Council advisers.


This Director is a member of the larger Leadership Development Team and will work closely with the Managing Director of Leadership Development and Director of Community to foster a synergistic culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement to ensure that NASSP’s strategic goals and objectives are being met. Through collaboration with the Director of Community, the Leading and Learning team will lead the development of relevant and responsive professional learning experiences, as identified by our networks of student leaders and school leaders, that will empower and support our members to build their leadership capacity in sustaining work in schools.


As NASSP is implementing a strategic plan that prioritizes growing, servicing and engaging students, advisers and school leaders, the Director of Leading & Learning will also collaborate across the organization with other Directors as a leadership team charged with a strategic focus on growing NASSP membership and expanding our membership value through relevant professional learning experiences. The Director, along with directors across Engagement Team will be charged with growing, empowering and mobilizing a diverse membership of school leaders (principals, assistant principals, and advisers) and student leaders, so they can think courageously, amplify their voice, experience, and expertise to make peer-driven change for educators, school staff, and students across the nation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


General

  • Responsible for the administration of all professional learning programming efforts for student and school leaders and advisers, with an emphasis on continuous improvement from one event to the other.
  • Develop and maintain a budget that will ensure achievement of goals and priorities, while being fiscally responsible. Communicate regularly with the Managing Director of Leadership Development on budget expenses and impact.
  • Maintain and execute action plans and data measures for work areas to operationalize team goals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure a consistent brand, message and user experience across all marketing channels and campaigns.
  • Work with the Community Director to identify current needs of student leaders, school leaders and advisers through the Leadership Networks and other types of advisory groups that will inform content and programming development.
  • Collects and analyzes metrics from professional learning experiences, events, and leadership resources to track program quality and effectiveness, and makes recommendations to the Managing Director of Leadership Development to improve the effectiveness and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Leads and directs a team to achieve and support team goals and the larger NASSP strategic goals and objectives.
  • Cultivate a collaborative culture within their team through coaching and mentoring to develop and leverage individual strengths to become contributing members of the team goals and priorities.
  • Execute and report on the progress of overall Leading & Learning strategy grounded in NASSP’s strategic plan, including creation and development of school leader and adviser professional learning experiences, events, and resources.
  • Cultivate a collaborative culture between the Community and Leading and Learning teams to achieve and support their respective team goals and the larger NASSP strategic goals and objectives.


Professional Learning

  • Collaborate with Growth Strategy Directors (membership, communications, digital) to identify, expand and communicate membership value all events and professional learning experiences to improve recruitment, renewal and retention of membership.
  • Build and lead the design, development and implementation of a public and member-oriented
  • Execute the vision for engagement with practitioners and experts in the field to develop robust professional learning and resources to support student and school leaders.
  • Work with Leadership Development advisory groups consisting of members to identify current needs that will inform content and professional learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate across Engagement teams (Community, Recognition, Events, Advocacy, etc.) on aligning events, programming, and resources with identified needs and priorities of student and school leaders from Leadership Networksand other advisory groups.
  • Online resource library providing access to curated resources that address the breadth of school leader and adviser needs.
  • Build content-focused leadership affinity cohorts (to include input from advisory groups) to serve school leaders with timely, relevant professional learning to talk about leadership problems of practice.
  • Build and lead the design of responsive and relevant programming for student leaders, school leaders, and advisers through NASSP events (LEAD & Ignite).
  • Collaborate with teams across the organization to integrate strategy and operational support into all Leading & Learning programming in alignment with NASSP’s strategic goals.
  • Leads adviser support, policy guidance, curriculum development, event programming for Honor Society Chapters and Student Councils.
  • Work with the Managing Director of Leadership Development to make recommendations about the strategic direction and leadership on the creation and delivery of professional learning experiences for school leaders, student leaders, and advisers.


Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Demonstrate a passion for student leadership and voice in school systems.
  • Demonstrate passion for the development of leaders within school systems and the ability to create a system or structure to execute the professional experience in a relevant manner.
  • Ability to execute strategy while aligning work to organizational priorities and collaborating with other groups
  • Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to high level of customer service
  • Background and understanding of K12 education and policies directly impacting educators and students, especially middle and high school levels
  • Creative thinker with a can-do attitude
  • Experience in overseeing NASSP Student Programs in adviser or school leadership capacity, such as Honor Society and Student Council strongly preferred.
  • Organized and self-motivated with strong business office technology skills
  • Proven ability in building and maintaining relationships with a wide array of people at every career level including for-profit, nonprofit, and government professionals
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment in DEI as part of the organization’s mission
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills, anticipating needs, determining priorities and meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience working in a leadership role, managing the work of others, and guiding a multi-disciplinary organization to meet the organization’s mission
  • Detail-oriented, high energy, comfortable in public speaking
  • Regular travel for events, meetings, team retreats required as needed.
  • Demonstrate success and skills related to effective speaking and facilitation, developing educational content along with curating content complementary to our work, and deeply listening to members as resources for content creation
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing budgets
  • Minimum of ten years of experience with education leadership and professional learning differentiated based on audience, preference for experience as secondary school principal.

Salary Range: 125,000 - 150,000 USD Annually

The referenced salary range is based on the Company's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
