Job Description

Position Summary: The Human Resources Officer (HRO) holds the senior HR position within the Silver School of Social Work, responsible for ensuring efficient and effective HR operations within Silver and for providing strategic HR expertise to Silver’s leadership team and its constituents, in furtherance of the mission and goals of Silver and consistent with University practice. The HRO oversees, either directly or through subordinates, the attraction, development and retention of the University’s human resources. The HRO maintains foundational knowledge of HR best practice, laws and university policies, and leads Silver’s HR function that supports talent attraction, retention and development of full and/or part time administrators, staff (both union and non- union), professional researchers, graduate and/or undergraduate student workers as well as (in some instances) faculty, adjuncts and researchers/scholars. The HRO partners closely with the leadership team within Silver the Vice President and CHRO of UHR, the UHR Leadership Team, as well as other key stakeholders to drive desired outcomes that improve recruitment, retention, development and employee engagement. This includes consultation on university-wide initiatives that relate to policies, systems, collective bargaining agreements and best practices. The HRO serves as an important and credible liaison in surfacing important issues to Silver’s leadership and to UHR leadership that can help to improve the overall HR infrastructure of the university on issues related to benefits, compensation, talent acquisition, learning and/or other core HR functions. The HRO leads an HR office that serves as a highly confidential resource, maintaining the highest levels of care, discretion, sound judgement, credibility and expertise in the field of HR. The purpose of this role is to support leadership by leading HR services including appropriate and effective strategies related to recruitment, workforce planning, compensation, performance management, training and development, rewards and recognition, benefits, employee relations, policy administration, immigration, employee communications, Human Resources Management System (HRMS) data integrity, metrics and reporting. Finally, this person drives operational excellence throughout the organization with a focus on moving the organization forward by leveraging HR data to inform leadership decisions within Silver. The HRO ensures that the delivery of school/unit-based HR services within Silver meets with reasonable standards of service quality including providing sound consultative advice that meets the needs of the constituents while adhering to broader university policy and protocols, provides timely submission of (and follow up in response to) requests, as well as ensuring that HR serves as a credible “go to” resource for all stakeholders. This incumbent also provides proactive ideas, suggestions, guidance and recommendations to build a diverse, inclusive and “best place to work” culture. Where feasible (and without compromising each school/unit’s unique characteristics) the incumbent seizes opportunities to partner with and standardize HR practice among schools/units in an effort to create a singular NYU-HR identify and to enhance administrative efficiency, This role has primary accountability to a senior leader within Silver, with additional accountability to the VPHR/CHRO relative to ensuring overall HR service quality and application of university HR policies, employment laws and procedures. Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in Human Resources Management or related area
Required Experience:
7+ years 7-10 years' relevant experience as a human resources manager/director or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must include in depth knowledge of a variety of areas in human resources, HR systems and reporting, and experience managing staff, administrative processes, and projects.
Preferred Experience:
7+ years Experience supervising, developing, and overseeing the implementation of policies and practices in an academic and/or nonprofit environment. Project management certification (EX: Six Sigma)and/or Design Thinking/Systems thinking training/experience a plus.

Utilizes emotional intelligence to understand stakeholders’ objectives and potential impediments; maintains positive working relationships even amidst differing points of view. • Influences and encourages others to reach successful resolution/conclusion for school/unit. • Identifies issues and/or patterns amongst seemingly unrelated or disparate items and proactively utilizes root cause and data analysis, input collected from various stakeholders, and information garnered from University subject matter experts (as applicable) to identify intrinsic, fundamental issues affecting school/unit. Is able to draw proper conclusions and make informed judgments and decisions for the school/unit. • Cultivates trust and maintains credibility through effective consultation and delivering on commitments. Establishes thought partnerships with school/unit stakeholders (and others) based on influence vs. authority, generating effective long-term business strategies and solutions for school/unit. • Relays verbal and/or written information with transparency, discretion and with audience sensitivity and stakeholders’ interests in mind. Ensures school/unit communications are consistent with University (and/or school/unit) vision, mission and culture. Actively engages stakeholders, both internal and external to school/ unit (as appropriate), to address issues. Mediates and resolves conflicts by way of consensus where/whenever possible. • Actively and constructively engages with those holding diverging viewpoints, for the betterment of the University and in the interest of adhering to its core values. • Encourages inclusivity and diversity of thought by soliciting and incorporating multiple viewpoints when solving problems, managing conflicts and/or driving innovation. • Possesses broad knowledge of various HR and other systems (ex: Workday, iCims, Interfolio, MS Office).
Additional Information: In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $158,000.00 to USD $198,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
