Job Description
Team Rubicon (TR) is seeking a Deputy Director, Trades Academy to join our Rebuild Operations. The Deputy Director, Trades Academy will be key in leading the pilot and implementation of trade skills credentialing and certification at Team Rubicon. This role will focus on creating and balancing daily execution, long-term team development, and support the design and implementation of a programmatic vision. The Trades Academy Deputy Director will execute implementation of the strategic goals of the organization, cross-functionally collaborate to achieve those goals, and build the team of professionals who support all the Academy’s active and development activities.


Every day will be a challenge, but every month brings new opportunities for an organization quickly becoming a household name in disaster response and humanitarianism. This position reports to TR’s Director, Long-Term Recovery Programs and is remotely based within the United States.


Duties:


  • Develop team performance goals and objectives while mentoring direct reports and on performance management; provide strategic direction in developing individual staff.
  • Support the design and implementation of programming envisioned to offer transitioning military veterans and others a route into the trades, focused on post-disaster construction.
  • Build and manage a cross-functional team of employees within the Trades Academy.
  • Influence the Trades Academy program build that has dedicated multi-year funding.
  • Lead initiatives to recruit, engage, and train leaders.
  • Develop and implement internal communication, meeting cadence, reporting, and business processes.
  • Pilot and build Team Rubicon’s investment in skilled trades development for the Trades Academy.
  • Coordinate closely with industry partnerships, course and certification development, delivery, and quality control.
  • Recommend procurement, within budgetary allocation, of goods and services necessary for efficient administration and effective execution of the Trades Academy operations.


Experience and Background:


  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills with cross-functional and multi-level effectiveness
  • Successful past performance in leading a trades academy is highly desired
  • Has experience in trades education and the desire to innovate in the space
  • Excellent personnel management and leadership experience such as recruiting, managing, training, and developing employees
  • 7-10 years of relevant professional experience in the military, disaster recovery, or trades management
  • Proficient with technology tools and in remote working for communicating and coordinating with an extensive network of TR staff members, Greyshirts, and external stakeholders


Special Requirements:


  • This is a full time; remote position based in the United States and provides a flexible & non-traditional work schedule
  • Other Travel: At least 25% non-local travel to support broader organizational activities focused within the assigned territory
  • Local Travel: Reliable transportation is required. The person filling this position will be expected to travel within their local area to support ongoing efforts
  • Evening and weekend schedule supporting leadership meetings, video conferences, events, and operations
