Job Description

Chroma Medicine is pioneering a new class of genomic medicines that harness epigenetics, nature’s innate mechanism for gene regulation, to revolutionize treatment of genetically driven disease. Founded by the world’s foremost experts in epigenetic editing and protein engineering and backed by industry-leading investors, Chroma is positioned to be the leader in epigenetic editing.

Chroma is working at the cutting edge of precision genomics, building an entirely new class of therapeutics that can precisely and durably control gene expression without changing or cutting the underlying DNA sequence. We are hiring at our Boston, Massachusetts site, offering a unique opportunity to be part of the foundational Chroma team.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly motivated and scientifically rigorous Associate Scientist to join our in vivo pharmacology group. The successful candidate will support preclinical development by evaluating therapeutic candidates in animal models of various diseases. If you share our passion and sense of urgency for finding a lasting cure for patients and are looking for a dynamic, collaborative and fulfilling work environment, we invite you to join our team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide written and verbal communication of work in lab reports and team meetings.
  • Perform routine rodent handling and dosing, including but not limited to subcutaneous, intravenous and intraperitoneal injections.
  • Perform bioanalytical assay and data analysis.
  • Be passionate about contributing in the lab in a diverse and inclusive environment every day.
  • Develop and characterize mouse models to support preclinical assessment of novel therapeutic molecules.
  • Perform in-life and terminal sample collections, including routine blood and urine collections, dissection of major tissues (liver, heart, kidney, lung, spleen, and brain, etc).
  • Keep accurate records of research activities and experimental details.
  • Provide general laboratory assistance, including ordering and receiving lab supplies, preparation of reagents, and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Draft IACUC protocols to meet the needs of in vivo activities.
  • Independently design and perform in vivo pharmacology studies to meet the project teams’ needs (target validation, mechanism of action investigation and candidate selection, etc.)

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Strong oral and written communication skills with experience presenting scientific research both internally across all levels of the organization and externally to other interested parties
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovative, and, at times, uncertain or changing environment while remaining flexible, proactive, and resourceful
  • Passionate, adaptable, and keen on working in the fast-paced biotech startup space to drive cutting-edge science
  • Collaborative and team-oriented mindset with a desire to positively impact a new company’s evolving culture
  • Adept at prioritizing and managing multiple tasks simultaneously, integrating cross-functional issues, and balancing competing priorities effectively
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills, including an ability to combine attention to detail with a big picture perspective

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficiency in basic software, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and GraphPad Prism
  • Experience in mouse genetic models or gene therapy is a plus
  • Highly skilled in animal colony management, genotyping, general animal handling, compound dosing (IV, PO, IP, IM, and SC), blood collection (tail vein, submandibular and retro-orbital), euthanasia and necropsy (tissue collection and processing)
  • BS/MS in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related disciplines
  • BS with ≥ 6 years or MS with ≥ 4 years of experience in executing preclinical in vivo studies using mouse models
  • Hands on working experience in molecular biology techniques (e.g., ELISA, Western blot, PCR/qPCR, etc.)
