Research Associate II, Vaccine Process Development

Objectives


  • Support in the routine operations of the Process Development Laboratories.
  • Recognize problems with experiments, suggest causes, and propose solutions. Support in the preparation of technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses of experimental procedures, data, and conclusions.
  • Support activities and information exchange between functional groups within Takeda including Vaccine Research and Analytics (VRA), Drug Product Development (DPD), and Analytical Services (AS).
  • Execute laboratory studies in support of process development, process scale-up, and process scale-down for the production of Takeda's vaccine candidates.


Accountabilities


  • Assist and support in the design, schedule and execute a wide variety of technical experimental studies for Upstream and/or Downstream Process Development for Vaccines.
  • Support the team leader and fellow Scientists in process development strategies, planning, and execution of laboratory experiments.
  • Write and maintain accurate, complete, and timely data in electronic laboratory notebooks.
  • Coordinate efforts between internal and external teams such as Vaccine Research and Analytics (VRA), Drug Product Development (DPD) , Analytical Services (AS), and Quality Assurance (QA).
  • Passaging of mammalian cells and assisting in cell culture scale-up.
  • Exhibit and promote Takeda Core Competencies.
  • Preparation of cell culture media, solutions, and buffers in support of lab-scale vaccine production.
  • Support in the authoring of laboratory operations and equipment SOPs.
  • Assist in the sample vial preparation, sampling, samples submission and/or analysis of production samples
  • Operating bioprocessing equipment such as bioreactors, ultrafiltration skids, chromatography systems, lab analytical instrumentation/computer platforms with minimal supervision.
  • Support in the development of methods to improve existing techniques and/or efficiencies.
  • Maintenance of general housekeeping for laboratory space and maintenance of equipment. Perform ordering, restocking of laboratory supplies and reagents, to ensure availability of items for studies.
  • Comply with Takeda safety practices and standard operating procedures.
  • Other operational or functional duties as assigned.
  • Analyze and summarize experimental outcomes, record experimental procedures and raw and analyzed data.


Education, Experience, Knowledge And Skills


  • Experience with upstream and/or downstream process development of virus vaccines/biologics. Knowledge and skills in cell culture techniques including manual cultivation of adherent/suspension cells in small-scale flasks and operation of stirred tank and/or packed bed bioreactors; and/or purification techniques including cell harvest technologies, preparative chromatography, and normal and tangential flow filtration techniques.
  • Well organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize tasks, eager to learn, interact cooperatively and effectively with others in a team environment, and consistently demonstrate reliability and responsibility. Good time and project management skills, ability to support several projects simultaneously.
  • MS in a scientific discipline with a minimum of 0-2 years relevant experience, or a BS in a scientific discipline with a minimum of 2-4 years relevant experience.
  • Maintain familiarity with current applicable scientific literature and contribute to the process of a project within her/his scientific discipline, as well as investigate, create, and develop new methods and techniques for project advancement.
  • Experience with analytical methods used in process development is strongly desired.
  • Good oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Working knowledge of Biologics cGMPs including ICH guidance documents would be a distinct advantage
  • Personal motivation to expand applicable scientific knowledge through reading and by attending seminars and research meetings.
  • Able to understand theoretical basis and objectives of experiments and how they fit into overall project goals.


Physical Demands


  • Lift and move supplies and equipment (up to 25 pounds).
  • Typical laboratory bending, stooping, lifting requirements apply.


Location and Salary Information:


Base Salary Range: $64,400 to $92,000, based on candidate professional experience level. Employees may also be eligible for Short Term and Long-Term Incentive benefits as well. Employees are eligible to participate in Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 401(k), Charitable Contribution Match, Holidays, Personal Days & Vacation, Tuition Reimbursement Program and Paid Volunteer Time Off.


The final salary offered for this position may take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, location, skills, education, and experience.


This position is currently classified as “hybrid” in accordance with Takeda’s Hybrid and Remote Work policy.”
