Join Takeda as a Biophysical Scientist (Analytical Development) where you will support biologics development in Analytical Development (US). You will also execute the biophysical and particulate characterization of novel biological products. As part of the Structural Characterization team, you will report to Head of Structural Characterization Biologics, Analytical Development.


How You Will Contribute


  • Participate in cutting-edge technology development and establish internal and external partnerships to build Takeda's scientific capabilities.
  • Perform non-GMP method qualification for different biophysical assays and particulate characterization methods.
  • Develop project specific technical strategies to characterize biotherapeutic products including challenging modalities and perform associated lab work and data reporting.
  • Understand project timelines and deliverables and plan/coordinate project work with departmental, functional, and external stakeholders.
  • Lead the characterization of biologics including the qualification of reference standards, in-depth structure/function studies, product comparability and investigations.
  • Develop, implement, and perform biophysical and particulate characterization analyses for biotherapeutics and emerging modalities.
  • Influence and support initiatives to drive scientific and technical improvement.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams with a focus on scientific/technical challenges across the biologic modalities within Takeda's diverse pipeline.
  • Technical responsibility for structural characterization of development programs within Analytical Development and across Pharmaceutical Sciences.
  • Review, interpret, and communicate data internally and across functions, including verbally in team settings and by the preparation of detailed technical reports.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key vendors and assist with technical aspects of collaborations.
  • Prepare and coordinate completion of CMC sections of regulatory documents, method transfer documents, qualification plans and reports, and GMP/non-GMP investigations within areas of expertise.
  • Plan and implement resolutions to technical issues.
  • Independently design and execute experiments and report results.


Minimum Requirements/Qualifications


  • Lead evaluation and implementation of new equipment/technologies.
  • Familiarity with GMP and regulatory guidelines and prior experience on a project team is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with a broad variety of biophysical techniques, including but not necessarily limited to SV-AUC, CD, DSC, DSF, DLS, MALS, fluorescence, FTIR, particle quantitation and characterization tools, and/or other spectroscopic-based methods for biologics.
  • Experience with statistical principles for biophysical data analysis is a plus.
  • General lab competencies such as equipment maintenance and compliance activities.
  • Experience with protein structure/function associations.
  • PhD in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering, or related pharmaceutical sciences with 0+ years relevant industry experience.
  • Able to conduct troubleshooting for complex technical issues for biophysical methods and to lead biophysical/particulate related investigations.
  • Can perform and develop complex methods and transferring these methods to internal and external laboratories.
  • Master’s degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering, or related pharmaceutical sciences with 6+ years relevant industry experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering, or related pharmaceutical sciences with 8+ years relevant industry experience.
  • May require approximately 5 % travel.
  • Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary team environment.

Base Salary Range: $105,000 to $150,000, based on candidate professional experience level. Employees may also be eligible for Short-term and Long-Term Incentive benefits as well. Employees are eligible to participate in Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 401(k), Charitable Contribution Match, Holidays, Personal Days & Vacation, Tuition Reimbursement Program and Paid Volunteer Time Off. The final salary offered for this position may take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, location, skills, education, and experience.
