Accounting Clerk - Treasury And Billing Division

Major Functions The County of Volusia is seeking an Accounting Clerk. This position is located in DeLand, Florida, and will be responsible for clerical work in keeping and maintaining routine and specialized accounting records in support of the mission of the Treasury and Billing Division. Prepares reports and aids in the routine balancing of accounts. Processes payments for a variety of fees and taxes, both in person and by mail. Provides excellent customer service across multiple channels, internal and external. The preferred candidate, having met the minimum requirements, will have at least one (1) year of cashiering and/or customer service experience. • Able to serve the public and answer questions relating to the operation of the unit.
• Responds to emergency situations. Minimum Requirements Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate and one (1) year of bookkeeping or accounting clerk experience. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements (i.e., an Associate's degree in Accounting). The preferred candidate, having met the minimum requirements,will have at least one(1) year of cashiering and/or customer service experience in bookkeeping or as an accounting clerk. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
• Responds to citizen inquiries in person and via phone and email.
• Assists with the timely and accurate monthly distribution of revenues collected by the division.
• Prepares journal entries to record or correct accounting transactions.
• Able to interact effectively with others.
• May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
• Mustbe able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs. ADA REQUIREMENTS: Physical Demands: Sedentary work. Able to lift up to 10 pounds.Ability to see, talk; finger dexterity for data entry, bend, stoop.Ability to look at a computer screen for long periods. Environmental Demands: Inside work. Mental Demands: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, procedures, memos, financial reports, formatted financial statements, and letters.Ability to do general mathematical calculations including basic accounting and bookkeeping. Ability to write and speak clearly and concisely to relay information, data, and details to others. • Conducts routine, non-complex audits of a variety of records by examining, verifying, and reviewing accounts, invoices, and vouchers.
• Prepares reports and assists with weekly/monthly/annual accounting balancing.
• Able to maintain accounting records and prepare reports.

• Aids in the opening and closing of cash tils and the daily balance.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of bookkeeping and ability to apply this knowledge in varied work situations.
• Knowledge of rules, regulations, and policies controlling fiscal record keeping.
• Able to make mathematical calculations with accuracy and reasonable speed.
• Assists in the preparation of invoices for payment.
• Communicates information to internal and external stakeholders in a professional manner.
• Able to workunder stressful conditions.
• Processes payment for a variety of fees and taxes collected by the division.
• Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
