Responsibilities
Maintains oversight of all waste management and parking maintenance activities, including recycling and garbage removal.
- Establish and update necessary files, documents, records and reports related to preventative maintenance and repair of assigned vehicles and equipment. Operates University vehicle as necessary. Other related duties and needed.
- Oversees the preventative maintenance and repair program for refuse vehicles, dumpsters and related equipment. Oversees the maintenance of gravel parking lots and garages, reporting repair and services requests to appropriate departments. Meet with customers to access their needs, handles complaints and set up new recycling and refuse programs on and off campus. Serves as or provides an emergency contact person for after hour callbacks.
- Tours campus, makes assignments, and inspects University on-and off campus facilities to determine the need for service, trash containers, dumpsters and makes assignments and inspects work locations of employees to ensure personnel are performing their duties in a safe and effective manner. Provides leadership and directs corrective measures when necessary to ensure satisfactory performance. May oversee activities of service contractors and suppliers when applicable. Oversees the proper handling and disposal of domestic trash and recycling material collected. Oversees the dumping of waste materials from other departments to collection receptacles located on campus. Employee will be responsible for covering a route or shift as needed.
- Responsible for managing and overseeing personnel and materials resources related to waste removal, recycling, and parking lots/garage maintenance. Supervises, trains, and evaluates work performance of staff. Assists with recruitment and employment separation processes, communicates with appropriate supervisory personnel and HR regarding disciplinary investigations, and makes recommendations for all assigned personnel. Prepares employee performance evaluations. Reviews and approves request for leave and reviews time and leave records.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalency and four years of experience; or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to four years.
- Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
- Ability to effectively train and direct the work of others.
- Ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.
- Knowledge of and ability to safely operate machinery, tools, equipment and materials used in waste management and recycling operations.
- Ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment.
- Driver's License CDL Class B, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Anticipated Salary Range
The hiring salary for this position is to be commensurate with experience and education.
