Job Description

HAZARDOUS WASTE SPECIALIST

The Hazardous Waste Specialist will be responsible for implementing and maintaining regulatory requirements relating to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Florida Department of Environmental Quality (FEDP) and Department of Transportation (DOT). The Hazardous Waste Specialist will be working with engineers and technicians daily to ensure SpaceX launch and recovery operations can support SpaceX goals while meeting all environmental objectives and regulatory requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Schedule, prepare and assist in the execution of waste shipments in partnership with waste disposal contractor
  • Responsible for environmental compliance with all applicable regulations including but not limited to EPA, RCRA, FDEP and DOT
  • Accurately record and maintain 90-day hazardous waste inventory logs
  • Monitor and manage levels of hazardous waste at each department's satellite accumulation area
  • Ensure all waste is properly stored, according to its classification
  • Ensure all waste is properly labeled
  • Consolidate and Lab pack waste when appropriate
  • Order and maintain adequate spill supplies such as spill pads, empty drums, secondary containment, and other equipment necessary to maintain safe handling and correct disposal of hazardous waste
  • Perform tasks related to RCRA regulatory hazardous waste handling, storage and disposal requirements
    • Monitor and manage levels of hazardous waste at each department's satellite accumulation area
    • Perform waste determinations of new waste streams
    • Ensure all waste is properly labeled
    • Ensure all waste is properly stored, according to its classification
    • Accurately record and maintain 90-day hazardous waste inventory logs
    • Perform all required hazardous waste and hazardous material storage area inspections
    • Schedule, prepare and assist in the execution of waste shipments in partnership with waste disposal contractor
    • Consolidate and Lab pack waste when appropriate
  • Perform all required hazardous waste and hazardous material storage area inspections
  • Perform regular inspections such as; hazardous waste accumulation and storage, universal waste storage, emergency eye wash/shower, SPCC
  • Perform tasks related to spill response and prevention, including clean up and/or the coordination of cleaning activities with a third party
  • Perform waste determinations of new waste streams

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience implementing and overseeing aspects related to the hazardous waste compliance
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • Be trained in the management of Hazardous Waste

PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Experience using Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
  • Have a current DOT certification for the shipment of Hazardous Waste
  • Demonstrated strong propensity for hands-on work and attention to detail in either academic or career pursuits
  • Experience in managing hazardous waste storage and satellite accumulation areas
  • Experience with emergency response crews in incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases to air, soil and water
  • Ability to work in a construction/industrial environment
  • Ability to multi-task, to manage shifting priorities and to follow through on projects with minimal supervision
  • Ability to communicate well with technicians and engineers


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:

Hazardous Waste Specialist: $75,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year

"Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
