Job Description

Position Purpose
Reporting to the COO, the VP Procurement is accountable for the strategy and performance delivery of all procured supply, demand, and indirect categories. This role will develop the strategies and initiatives, including tactical leadership responsibility for delivering the expected results. Strategic Category Management is the primary methodology for the delivery of service and benefits. This role leads the delivery of; Brand and NSV growth, cost reduction and avoidance, and procurement decisions which impact the consumer and customer experience. This involves identifying, developing and delivering strategic initiatives with strong collaboration of all functions across all sites including category strategy, total cost of ownership, sustainability, productivity, and implementing a benchmarked Procurement Organization. This position will collaborate with multiple stakeholders including supply vendors for direct materials, indirect goods and professional services to support operations and growth.
Functional Responsibility
  • Identifies, analyzes, and drives the competitive landscape, opportunities for expansion, customers, markets, new industry developments, best practices, standards, etc.; maintains awareness of regulatory changes to ensure compliance and continually improve operations
  • Fosters a work environment that encourages creative thinking, promotes flexibility, and drives innovation
  • Drives strategic alignment, guides leadership team, and works cross-functionally in the development of staffing plans; attracts, motivates, and retains a workforce with the appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities to achieve the company's goals and objectives
  • Communicates the company's vision and mission; develops and implements the strategies that guide the direction of the business in areas of responsibility
  • Inspires, guides, and develops direct reports; identifies and mentors successor; fully engages in the GPS (Performance Management) process; provides high-quality feedback, and ensures proper GPS documentation of employee performance, recognition, and deficiencies
  • Ensures compliance and consistent application of company policies, initiatives, and decisions
  • Aligns leaders on change initiatives, leads the way, and prepares the company for success in a continually changing environment
  • Ensures that employee issues, concerns, and complaints are handled in accordance with company policies and applicable legal advice for clear, consistent messaging and resolution
  • Promotes and ensures a safe and healthy work environment for all employees
  • Oversees, directs, and manages activities and the leadership team's performance in areas of responsibility
  • Drives and models company culture and holds self, peers, and direct reports accountable for demonstrating a constructive company culture through influential, personal behavior and actions
  • Owns and oversees the development of the rolled-up budget, and conducts financial planning and analysis to ensure budget and other financial goals are in line with business strategy
  • Directs the optimization of resources and results; collaborates with cross-functional leaders to position and integrate business functions and remove obstacles to accomplish key objectives and high impact initiatives
Essential Duties
  • Works directly with suppliers to build strategic partnerships and manages negotiations when necessary
  • Monitors and reviews procurement and contracting procedures through consultation with the legal and accounting teams; works closely with the Accounting team to ensure price protocols
  • Oversees supplier strategy and guides the company on the best way to utilize the vendor resources for cost, operations efficiency, quality and continuity of supply
  • Develops best-in-class procurement processes to efficiently deliver procurement services, build competitively advantaged knowledge bases, engage e-procurement solutions and reduce transactional costs across the organization while ensuring transparency to costs and risks
  • Develops via strong collaboration with all functions and stakeholders, manuals and policies such as but not limited to procurement, travel, professional services and payment terms
  • Establishes, monitors and evaluates short and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures
  • Delivers executional excellence in procurement initiatives and supplier performance leading to savings
  • Provides coaching and direction to Category Managers on strategic partner negotiations and relations
  • Broadens the scope of the Procurement Team to include the purchasing of services and other areas identified via spend analytics, targeting a minimum of 80% procurement coverage of all spend in scope
  • Embeds the Procurement organization model and ways of working both within Procurement as well as with other functions; optimizes the role of the operational buyers
  • Establishes senior functional credibility with internal and external stakeholders plus provide strategic thought leadership to the Business
  • Develops a leading Procurement Function driving maturity through strategic initiatives such as Total Cost of Ownership, SPM/SRM, Sustainability, should cost modelling and benchmarking, data management, productivity, employee engagement and talent management
  • Institutes an analytical culture in the Procurement team to consider all variables of supply e.g. spend cube, prices, should cost models, discounts, terms, logistics, quality, innovation, risk and service
  • Institutionalizes a procurement scorecard that balances costs, services, sustainability and P2P process efficiencies
  • Collaborates with finance, supply chain, operations, IS and marketing to define overall purchasing strategy to optimize P2P process, system, tools and best practices to achieve continuous improvement goals; acts as a cross-functional P2P process owner

Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, finance, management or related field; MBA preferred
  • 15+ years of progressively more responsible leadership roles in Procurement; includes previous packaging, demand or indirect procurement experience ideally in an FMCG environment and ideally market procurement experience
  • 7+ years leadership or supervisory experience
  • Previous Procure to pay transformation and engagement experience with responsibility for delivery of organization, process, system and tools including financial savings

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • High level of budgeting and strategic planning experience, forecasting, pricing, and deal structures
  • Must be able to implement processes and decisions while maintaining relationships with customers in other functional groups
  • Possess excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Advanced ability to negotiate and manage contractual arrangements
  • Ability to understand and apply buying intelligence to negotiating strategy; read and evaluate contracts to ensure compliance with rules and regulations inclusive of contract compliance
  • Self-motivated with high energy for examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy and business process improvement
  • Experience working with Supply Chain and accounting ERP Systems (SAP, JDE, etc.) and automated purchasing tools and strong skills in Microsoft Office suite tools
  • Deep understanding of, and experience in the use of the procurement process and best practices including developing market/industry analysis, supplier analysis, total cost of ownership analysis, sourcing strategy and supplier strategy development
  • Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills with strong management background
  • Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques
  • Knowledge of accounts payable principles, procedures, and standards
  • Must have experience in change management skills- influential and highly collaborative
  • Possesses demonstrated strength of character and ability to excel in a challenging and changing environment during periods of rapid growth

California Pay Transparency Disclaimer: This is a Exempt position. The pay range for this position is $176,085.12 to $275,415.12.

Actual placement within range will be contingent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, education, experience, internal equity and alignment with market data.
