Position Overview

CymaBay Therapeutics, Inc. is a publicly traded, clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company based in Newark, California, focused on developing therapies for liver and other chronic diseases with high unmet medical need.We are building our organization as we prepare to launch our first therapeutic, Seladelpar in the US, in anticipation of Ph3 data read out followed by successful NDA filing and regulatory approval.

Reporting to the CFO, the Associate Director, procurement will be responsible for establishing basic sourcing infrastructure for the company and oversee day to day operations related to procurement life cycle including the supplier selection, negotiation of contracts, purchase order management and supplier performance.

Principal Responsibilities

• Lead continuous procure to pay (PTP) process improvement projects in our current ERP system to streamline efficiency and access.
• Develop standard operation procedures (SOP) and training documents for cross-functional teams and implement key performance indicators.
• Identify and implement Continuous Improvement opportunities such as cost reductions, quality improvements, and supplier consolidations/reductions.
• Using market knowledge to mitigate supply chain risks; proactively seek information to predict, understand, and analyze risks and develop appropriate strategies.
• Develop framework and lead procurement strategy to help departments and the company find cost strategies.
• Collaborate with FP&A and Accounting teams for any/all new process improvements and troubleshooting.
• Direct all activities related to sourcing goods or services across R&D, Commercial, G&A, and CMC teams.
• Develop, implement, and manage procurement strategies, tools, and plans that align with the company’s goals and objectives, while maintaining sustained supply in a highly dynamic environment.
• Manage vendor relationships, facilitating smooth order processing, communicating with stakeholders, generating reports, and performing other essential purchasing activities to maximize buying power and create value.
• Use best practices such as careful requirements definition to develop and execute comprehensive RFPs.
• Strong negotiation skills with ability to reduce costs with sole and single source suppliers, both as the leader of a cross-functional negotiation team or independently.

Candidate Requirements

• Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment with the ability to quickly ascertain needs, develop collaborative solutions and communicate actions effectively.
• Experience with sourcing and vendor management required.
• Comprehensive knowledge of commercial contract terms and ability to lead supply agreement negotiations independently.
• 10+ years’ experience in Supply Chain or Procurement in Biotechnology companies; 7+ years’ experience with Master’s.
• Bachelors or masters degree in business administration, Operations, Supply Chain Management or related field.
• Process and customer service focused required with attention to detail.

The candidate in this role will need to be a self-starter and category knowledge in biotech/pharma commercial and/or clinical supply chain organization is preferred. Other preferred qualifications include…

• Experience working with Coupa, Netsuite, SAP, or similar platforms.
• Results oriented with strong sense of urgency to mitigate risk and close issues.
• Ability to develop nimble sourcing process based on needs of the organization.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to successfully interact and influence across functions and at various levels of the organization to gain alignment and mitigate program risks/challenges.
• Demonstrated agility working in team environments and as an individual contributor.

The salary range estimated for this position based in Newark, California is $170,000 - $190,000. Thefinal salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. CymaBay is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work outside of SF/Bay Area or in other states.
