Director – US International Tax
Elanco has an exciting opportunity to join our growing innovative and collaborative tax team as we execute our vision to become a high performing tech-forward tax department, taking command over our data and enabling increased analytics through use of data wrangling, automation and visualization tools. Our commitment to this vision is demonstrated by our commitment of resources, including a newly created Tax Technology Manager position, training plans and technology license budgets to meet our needs and collaboration with an external service firm to develop a tax technology platform and process roadmap aligned to Elanco’s unique needs as a highly acquisitive and growing global #2 company in animal health.
The Role
The Director, US International Tax, reports to the Sr. Director, Federal & State Tax and Global Tax Process and plays an integral role in the global tax department, primarily responsible for:
- Supports Sr. Director on various tax planning initiatives, drafts and reviews technical memos and collaborates with tax and other functional team members to support strategic initiatives
- Identifies business transactions that have US International tax ramifications and ensures complete and accurate file documentation to support Elanco’s tax positions
- Managing the preparation and review of US international income tax compliance and provision reporting, including calculations and modeling of Subpart F and GILTI inclusions, E&P, BEAT payments, FDII and foreign tax credit, while mitigating tax risk related to the Company’s foreign operations
- Trains and develops team members
- Implements sustainable processes to continuously improve accuracy and efficiency
- Setting direction for and oversight of the US international tax planning and compliance

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with peers to maintain a positive team atmosphere
- Direct the process and review the annual and quarterly US international tax provision related to foreign operations, including review of the foreign inclusions and foreign tax credit calculations
- Contribute to the development of a strategy to administer the US international tax filing and compliance process using automation to gain efficiencies and ensure completeness and accuracy of the filings
- Maintain updated E&P, tax basis and PTEP computations of the company’s foreign affiliates as well as overall domestic loss and overall foreign loss accounts, and foreign tax credits calculations
- Manage a team of two managers and a senior tax analyst
- Work with transfer pricing and provision tax teams to gather/finalize the information required to complete the US international tax filing and compliance process to ensure accurate and timely filed tax returns, including information required to calculate FBCSI and 901(m) haircut
- Lead and develop through coaching, mentoring, and training junior tax professionals
- Oversee modeling of the US tax impacts of various tax strategies via the Deloitte IITR
- Develop responses to IRS inquiries on complex topics and analyzes technical positions in IRS audit examinations
- Research complex tax issues proactively, and is proficient in interpreting and applying the tax law, regulations, and cases to specific transactions and factual situations, including business development and integration scenarios
- Provide strategic tax advice and guidance to develop documentation and arguments for tax audits and appeals as needed
- Oversee the US International tax filing and compliance process, including but not limited to Forms 5471s, 8858, 8865, 8975, 8990, 8991, 8992, 8993 and 1118
- Oversee preparation and review of disclosures and elections related to international acquisitions, restructurings and tax planning
- Assist in the identification and management of key risks emanating from international tax operations, compliance, and reporting
- Collaborate with multiple stakeholders to advance tax strategies and ensure compliance with tax laws
- Keep current on tax law changes, cases, rulings and regulations, including OECD Pillar 2 global minimum tax framework
Minimum Requirements
- CPA or equivalent
- Well-developed alternative scenario modeling skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, with strong history of deliver
- Excellent leadership and teamwork skills
- 15+ years of progressive US International tax experience in public accounting or industry
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Strong technical skills in: FTC; subpart F; TCJA 2017, including GILTI, BEAT and FDII and all international reporting and compliance matters
- Demonstrated strength in project management philosophy, tools and processes
- Experience using CorpTax, MS Office Suite, Teams, SharePoint and Bloomberg/BNA research tools

- Analytical: Superior problem-solving skills required; plan and execute at strategic and tactical levels.
Other Considerations
- Minimal travel
- Overtime will be required at peak times
- Worker Type: Hybrid; will consider remote if regionally located, making periodic trips to the office as needed/requested
