Job Description
The position is primarily responsible for the preparation of the international reporting of the US federal consolidated corporate income tax return, supporting the tax provision calculations for SIRVA’s international operations, and coordinating VAT/GST filings. Additionally, will assist in updating forecasts, develop impact of new legislation, document international tax positions and issues, and assist with transfer pricing documentation.
Open to remote candidates, perference for candidates based in IL.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with preparation of the US consolidated federal corporate income tax return filings relating to international operations including, Forms 5471’s/8858’s, CbCR, and reporting for GILTI, BEAT, FDII and FTCs. Assist and further develop process improvements in data management and calculations due to law changes. Research and gain understanding of new regulations and pronouncements associated with changing international statutory landscape.
  • Work with foreign affiliates to assist them in their preparation of tax provision packages and return to provision calculations.
  • Assist accounting personnel in proper tax accounting under US GAAP/ASC 740 and IFRS/IAS 12.
  • Work with external service providers (where required) to document and understand reporting requirements and deadlines as well as review, approve and possibly file indirect returns.
  • Review systems and processes with respect to indirect tax compliance for Canadian and foreign business operations and ensure that systems and processes accurately and completely capture required indirect taxes.
  • Coordinate and/or complete and file Canadian HST/QST returns and other VAT returns.
  • Assist and review of the current and deferred tax calculations, rate reconciliation, supporting calculations workpapers, and documentation, relating to international operations, for ASC 740.
  • Other projects as assigned including modeling of tax law changes, responding to audit requests and notices from tax authorities, and general ledger account reconciliations.
Key Skills & Competencies:
  • Experience reviewing and analyzing information provided by Accounting and other personnel required for tax compliance purposes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in Accounting for Income Taxes (ASC 740)
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in US federal/international tax (corporate tax department and/or public accounting)
  • Knowledge of the Canadian GST and other VAT regimes.
  • Highly proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Office software
  • Experience with tax compliance software (CorpTax) and financial/accounting systems.
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail.
Education and Certification Requirements:
  • CPA and/or MST desirable
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
